Sandoval is on a distinguished road
Default Arizona

Just remember that Arizona beats west Texas. There is only one city in west Texas that can compete with Arizona and that is Lubbock. Arizona leaves the rest of west Texas in the dust.

Yuma is at the bottom of the list when it comes to cities in Arizona. But Yuma beats the majority of Texas.

Phoenix, Arizona beats just about all of Texas : San Antonio, El Paso, Austin and DFW can compete with Phoenix. I think if you compared these cities with each other you would have a draw.

San Antonio, El Paso , Austin and DFW all beat Tucson, Arizona.
Tucson beats all of west Texas , Houston and the Beaumont area.

Have you looked at Sierra Vista , Arizona ?

Sierra Vista, Arizona and Alamogordo, New Mexico are very similar cities. They are alot alike.

Of the places listed in my title, which would you choose and why?
btw, i am a 41 year old caucasian divorcee and totally cowgirl with no kids, two small dogs...so keep that in mind
my priorities are: dry climate, wide open spaces, cowboy country e.g. rodeo action, and a place where i can afford to finally settle down-buy a home with an acre or so for me and my furbabies
Please understand, my advice for you to consider Abilene/Buffalo Gap/ the surrounding area... is because they seemed to fit what you were looking for and I have only positive things to say about most of it... It doesn't seem to be full of nightlife, but like you, I am not looking for that. You asked for rodeos and goodness knows they have a bundle of them here. There's a stable that my daughter takes horseback at called Baccacita Farms and there were lots of women out there doin' their cowgirl thing!

Again, this doesn't mean one of those other places mentioned is worse or better; as I have never been--- I can't wait to explore them though. I have seen lots of data on other cities, not that it's all acurate... and Abilene really does look very stable. It's not extremely colorful, but like I said, I think it is a very good place to live. Much luck to you!

Thanks for that Lifertexan. My husband has four days off this week (unheard of) and I was hoping to explore a bit of my new homestate. I think I'll ask him to take me for a drive to Lubbuck. That is one thing about Abilene, not much color in the city. Now, in the spring on this little hill, I couldn't believe all the wildflowers.. I fell in love. We've been thinkin about goin on a little trip that wouldn't cost a ton in gas, but would feel different than where we are on a daily basis. Someone said that Marble Falls was a good destination for us. Now, I'm thinking Lubbock could be something to scout out. Do you have any ideas for us that won't break the bank? We are in Baird and have a bundle of kids.

My vote;

Abilene - To me it is a good all-aroud city.

Lubbock - Would be a very close second, but I don't care too much for the weather. It can get very cold, snowy and the wind blows a lot.

Amarillo - Again, weather, same as Lubbock but worse. Other than that, it would have a lot too offer.

Big Spring - Not much there, in between Abilene, Midland, Lubbock and San Angelo.

El Paso - A pretty city with the mountains, but when I was there for a visit, the air seemed real hazy from air pollution.

Phoenix and the rest of AZ beat Texas?Um,I don't think so.Let's see,the AZ crime rate ranks #1 overall (that being the bad #1,as in most crime) in the nation,#1 in property crime,#1 in vehicle thefts,#2 in larceny, fourth in burglary, and fifth in murder.Phoenix has just about the highest crime rate of any city on a normal basis, and now they have not one,but TWO serial killers running around loose. You bet,AZ is THE place to move to.If your hearts desire is to be a crime victim.

I have family in AZ,specifically in Sierra Vista. They like it there but don't share the view that it is on par with Texas.I've been to SV a couple of times, the first when Hwy 90 was still like 45 mph speed limit all the way from I-10 to SV.Longest drive of my life driving 45 through the countryside. It is alright, but it doesn't hold a candle to Texas, and my family members there agree.

Well, for a weekend trip I would still go down to the Hill Country if I could afford the gas.Lubbock is a great place to live (my daughter and some other relatives live there and love it),but it really isn't a big vacation spot.Unless you are just looking for some good restaraunts and shopping. But for that nothing beats the absolutely huge outlet malls in San Marcos, coupled with running on down to San Antonio for a night in the motel and some great restaraunts.Hard to beat Pappasitos or Pappadeaux there in SA.Going to San Marcos and on down to SA would probably add about 300 miles total over going to Lubbock, but in my mind it would be a well spent $ 40-50.The drive itself will be much prettier than the one to Lubbock also.

Thanks so much. I'll start investigating. Also, I have to say, I've never been to Arizona, but so much doesn't sound good as far as stats... I'm glad to hear more input on that.
Guess everyone likes something different...
Thanks again!

No sir/ma'am. We've only been around Abilene, to DFW, and to Denison (I think that was the name ... right next to Oklahoma) We have a large family and thus a large gas guzzling vehicle, so we have had to stay rather close to home. We love driving and exploring other spots. My husband came out here with the new Cracker Barrel (he manages) and they are talking lots about promotion. We love so much about Texas. Our home especially, but just in case we are to venture away from here (like the east coast), we really want to have seen some "sights" in the west. I don't want to waste this opprotunity. We are looking for trips that give us a lot for little cash. Malls are good, but without money... I don't know. We really just want to see Texas. We don't need entertainment at this point. What's your opinion?
