Default Texas weather....tell me about it....

I may be relocating to Beaumont from Michigan. How's the weather there? I wont miss the 9 months of waiting for decent weather here. Also wont miss the snow. How is the weather ESPECIALLY November-March. Thanks!

What's "decent" to you?

I'd prefer snow over the 6 or so months of ridiculous humidity and heat, followed by the other 6 months of not-quite ridiculous heat and humidity.

yeah seasons suck down here, there really is no fall either, everything is sort of a faint green most of the year and then turns brown and dies, no fall foliage. its either really hot or really cold. overall this state blows

What the frig are you doing here? I'd never be stupid enough to live someplace that "blows"! You should make yourself happy and move along!

Blowing sux!

I live 50 miles north of Bmt. but work there.

Winter cool frontal weather mostly comes from the NW but sometimes from the north which will bring colder temps. I have seen it freeze and stay below freezing several days but that was rare (1983 & 1989). Some winters it doesn't freeze more than a few hours at night a few times a year. Lows will get to mid 20's for a couple of hours. Highs that day will be 40's-50's. Possible to have 70 degree temps in January/Feb and have seen it frequently.

I have seen it freeze in late march but it is rare. There are maybe 20-30 low humidity days in the cooler part of the year post cold frontal conditions ... this is less than 50% and down to 30%. These will generally be very nice days ... like a sunny fall day in Mich.. Long johns are definitely optional equiptment.

Humidity is the thing ... Beaumont is low elevation and close to the Gulf with prevailing SE winds bringing tropical/sub-tropical air with it from the Gulf. 90%+ humidity on summer mornings is the norm which burns off in the evenings to the 60's%. Humidity gets worse exponentially as you get closer to the Gulf ... spend a night on the beach and see what I mean.

No snow usually (we did get 3" last year). The cold is different here ... much more penetrating because of the humidity. I was more comfortable when I lived in Maine at 20* than I am here at 40*.

I hear all the time folks say we have no seasons in Texas ... generally northern tier transplants. But saying that is like say the North has no summer. Its dumb!!!! Our winters are mild by northern standards (thank God Almighty)! Our summers are long and hot ... damn hot! In East Texas we hit the 90's in mid to end May and it lasts until the end of September. But we have A/C and swimming pools, and creeks, lakes, and rivers to enjoy. You can adapt but know one thing ... this is Texas and it dang sho ain't gonna be Mich or any other northern type weather. My Canadian wife LOVES it here!

There is a thread on the fall foliage if you are moving here for fall foliage! I assume you are coming because of the free spirited and individualism which abounds here and has built the Texas economy into one of the stronger in the US. (and world).

Better hurry though, folks are flooding in here and job markets are shrinking!

Don't forget the occassional hurricane. That's weather too, you know. Last year, Beaumont got hit by Ike and in 2005, it was Rita, both major storms.

Yep ... it separated the men from the boys! Was without grid electricity for 16 days after Rita but only 6 after Ike. But, it was the first time since the 50's the area was significantly affected by hurricanes.

Thanks for the reminder ... I almost forgot about filling generators and chainsawing fallen oaks!

Beaumont's summertime rating is 23 (100 being the best). It has to do with relative humidity. It's some calculation of humidity, temperature, and dew point. The higher the dew point the more uncomfortable the humidity is.

How much damage does Beaumont get from a hurricane like Ike or Rita? Lots of flooding or buildings knocked down?
