If I were going to venture a guess, I'd say that it's because of the ongoing sprawl, incredible population growth and the ever-increasing price of homes.

It was very different 30 years ago, but then I suppose that's true of any city.

And because of the liberal attitudes and mindset that is in Austin now.....much moreso than the rest of Texas.

I think it has a lot to do with the tech industry. Also, all the Californians coming here.

It is just funny when I read that from some of the posts, they make it sound like all Californians are green aliens and they are taking over the whole city. LOL It makes me wonder though because we are looking to move in that area, and I want to get OUT of California, so if it is anything like California then maybe I should look somewhere else. I do not want to move to another place that is just like California. So if Austin is turning into California I have to ask, the public school systems are not so great? It is in a budget crisis? The governor is like Arnold? Housing market is BAD? Austin has earthquakes? I had no idea that Austin was like California, but then again I have never been there long enough to tell. I do not want to move to another California??!!

What is it about California that you are trying to get away from. It would be easier for people to answer that kind of question than the one you posed.

Austin has always been more liberal than the rest of Texas.

If I had to guess; I'd say because of it's liberalness (so overrated) and landscape. Many parts of Austin resemble CA according to people on here. I've never been to CA, but I've been to Austin and it feels like Texas to me.
