I'm not fascinated, I just enjoy architecture (all types). Something you don't understand......

Hey, Chase Tower Houston is the ugliest skyscraper out of the big 4 skyscrapers in Texas, but I still enjoy looking at pictures of it and reading about what inspired the architect to design it the way he did.

I do have to admit that those pictures do no justice for that building...First off.. the building has been PERFECTLY renovated. The detail of the panels really pop at you in person. All of the windows have been replaced with dark tinted ones....it really is a masterpiece if I say so myself.

No one is harping about chase, but you keep going on and on about this hedious building.

And what architecture are you talking about? It is a box with a glow in the dark tampon dispenser in the tip.

i know what you mean. with Houston its the north/west side that gets overuses and doesnt properly show the density of downtown. a row of 700-1000 footers line the edge and block everything behind them. its even worse when your lined up with the street grid. the south and east sides show the older smaller buildings and really shows the density.

vs..

It's called mid-century modern. Before, buildings were not cladded in aluminum or glass at all. Buildings previously had many setbacks with stone/brick exteriors (like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Woolworth Building, etc). It was extremely modern for its time. Like I previously stated, that's why the government designated it as a NRHP

Without mid-century modern buildings there would be no buildings cladded in glass.

I agree, but you have to remember what era that was built in. They thought that building was spectacular.

Yeah that's a nice building when you look at it in person. The wall texture that comes out at you and the color give off a feeling of power and dominance. I prefer the Mercantile Place more than this building however (The one on the left).
