South Padre is NOWHERE near 2hrs away...maybe if you drive 30mph it is...

i would say it's at least an hour and a half.

1 hour or so to los fresnos. half an hour or so til you're actually on the island.

Of late, Monterrey has become a very dangerous place. There is a lot of gang activity that hinges on the drug cartels. It's a lovely place. I've been there numerous times because it is on the road to Mexico City. The mountains are nice. But, as I said, it is a dangerous place and there is no way I would move there.

McAllen is a nice town. It is not small and it is not huge. IMO it is just the right size. I visit McAllen from time to time because of San Juan de los Lagos. She hangs around part time just east of McAllen in San Juan, TX. My godmother has to make an annual pilgrimage and guess who drives her?
