What's the most accepting city in Texas for gay people? By big city I mean a city with a population of... about 500,000 or more, but if you know of any smaller cities or towns I'd love to hear about those too.

Most of the larger ones (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin...)

There's a good chance Houston is about to be the largest city in the US with an openly gay mayor...

You will find Houston, Dallas, and Austin to be very gay friendly.

Houston isnt at all gay friendly outside of a few large areas. I was walking with my brother to a restaurant in an empty mall parking lot and some rednecks in a truck assumed we were gay and tried to run us down.
Most major cities in Texas have areas that are generally safe. But Austin is the safest as a whole.

Popular to contrary belief, Texas is more gay friendly than you may think. Houston MAY (the deal isn't sealed yet) soon have an openly gay mayor, Dallas County has an openly gay Sheriff, and I am sure countless others in public office are as well........

Your statement makes me laugh, you make it sound like Texas is full of gay bashers. Heres a story for you.......I have lived in Texas 32 years and NEVER have received any hate mail, threats, violence or any other "hate crime" related stuff, yet I lived in a "northern" state for 4 years and was beaten and left for dead by three thugs because I am gay, guess what state this was in? CONNECTICUT.

Have you ever been to Texas or are you making assumptions off of stuff Hollyweird produces?

I'd say any of the major cities in Texas.

Yes, Texas is a very conservative state, but it's also very Southern in its "mind your own business" way.

Like others have said, pretty much any of the major cities in Texas. Dallas and Houston will have the traditional "gayborhoods", while in Austin it's kind of spread out everywhere. Austin will have the most gay-friendly laws, recently having passed the first-in-Texas extension of Cobra benefits to domestic partners of city employees: Austin Adds COBRA to DP Benefits | Marriage Equality | Advocate.com .. and many other similar firsts throughout the years.

The Advocate says Dallas is one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. to live in if you're gay.
