Is it necessary to make something political out of this? I doubt this has anything to do with the President. Some nut shot and killed some poor innocent person. I hope the guy hangs by his you know what, but let's leave politics out of it..

Tablemtn, haven't you heard, guns don't kill, criminals do. Anyone can get a gun, maybe he stole it, most likely wouldn't you think?

That is not the bad area of town, you'd expect this to happen on the boulevard mor than anywhere else.
Add to the fact that that is a street that i drive doen everyday, and its a little scary.

Dude: Wikipedia is not a reputable source for any kind of information. And trust me, there were in 2008 at least 300 or so murders in New York compared to Amarillo's dozen or so.

And I know those who grew up here don't believe me but Amarillo really has NO "bad area." The only thing unsafe about driving on the Boulevard are all the scary drivers, which to be blunt, is unreal compared to everywhere else I've ever lived. I may start a new thread for that.

its reputable for stuff like statistics and othe this, but not for conterversial stuff (like healthcare)

"The following table is based on Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crime Reports statistics that initially became available in September 2008. The numbers are FBI 2007 statistic site and is downloadable in Excel format."

From what I can find, there were 13 homicides reported in Amarillo city limits during 2008. 13 homicides for a population of 174,000 is a rate of 7.47 murders per 100,000 people.

New York City recorded 516 homicides in 2008 out of a population of 8.364 million. So, their murder rate is 6.17 per 100,000 people, which is actually 1.3 per 100,000 lower than Amarillo.

But the national average is 5.4 per 100,000, and both cities exceed that by quite a bit.

To compare, the rate in England and Wales - where the slain tourist was from - had a murder rate last year of 1.2 per 100,000 people.

I can't actually think of the last time an American tourist was randomly shot dead at a bar in England.
