Default Texas town with best Texas music scene?

Although Austin is a great music city, most of it is blues or indie rock. Same things apparently is true in Denton. Not much country and Texas music to be found.

What city is the true Texas / Country music capital of the state? Maybe Fort Worth?

I posted this in another thread a week ago. Not a city (more of a big town), but New Braunfels definitely has an active Texas Music scene.

NB is about 35 min. from downtown San Antonio & 45 min. from Austin. A neat historic old town. Too bad you're not visiting THIS week:

Like most smaller towns in Texas (that serve a broad socio-economic mix of people) the schools are good...not great.

The question is too broad. It depends on what you like.

Much of Texas music originated in Lubbock, and it's still found there. One can't discuss Texas music and not mention it, imo.

Not just Texas music started in Lubbock. Buddy Holly (http://www.tropicalglen.com/Jukebox/1958Top/myjukeboxE.html - broken link), a native of Lubbock, was a pioneer in Rock and Roll. And not to forget other area musicians including Waylon Jennings, Mack Davis, Ned Sublette, Joe Ely, Lloyd and Natalie Maines, Sonny West, Jimmie Gilmore, and a host of others.

What? Austin if very well known for Texas Country. What about Wellie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, Asleep at the Wheel. I believe Pat Green is now based out of Austin. I'm sure there are a lot of others but I don't really listen to Country, but I do know that Austin is very well known for Texas Country. I also know Denton has a decent Texas Country scene. The Eli Young Band is from Denton. Really, it's kind of hard to become a music city in Texas without attracting a good Country music scene.

As for other cities, I would think Fort Worth and Lubbock would be two of the best cities for Country music.
