Brooks AFB is still open...the Air Force school of medicine and the 311th Human Systems Wing are still there...

San Antonio is slow moving, no place for a Party Animal. Although San Antonio has only about a 10% African American population, We have one of the Largest MLK day Parades with estimated 130,000 marchers for the past 6+ years.

San Antonio has one of the largest free Thanksgiving day Dinner for Seniors and displaced...35,000 dine at the H B Gonanlez convention center. For the past 25 years the Raul Jimenez Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner has been going strong.

We have the largest illuminated Night Parade in the nation...The Fiesta Flambeau parade. Fiesta is a reason on its own.

Comming from SDCa, I dont have to say much about our Sea World, Fiesta Texas theme park or being 15 min from Schilterbaun, voted the best waterpark in the nation.

Not to mention, one of the most prestigious medical communities in the state. The Army and Air Force are underway on a 700 million dollar expansion of the Brooke army medical center.

We are trully at the cross roads of Texas, San Antonio is almost 300 years old. We are on the original Camino Real, or Kings Hwy...A route from Mexico city, Mx comes up to San Antonio and heads East to Louisana and west to California...

I recommend San Antonio for you. Its a military city. I prefer Austin personally, but it has lots of California people.

I've lived in Austin and now outside of Ft Worth - very familiar with San Antonio. You won't go wrong with any of them. Ft Worth has a bit of a 'small town' feel, IMO. It would be my choice of the three.

I have to admit that the traffic in Austin is horrendous and it's changed a lot since I lived there. Austin has the most "hippy" vibe and is a giant college town. Ft Worth still has that 'cow town' feel to it. I think San Antonio is the most "Texas" city in the state, but only those who have lived here forever are likely to know what I'm talking about.

Welcome to Texas - good Luck with your new life.

Having lived in San Diego, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, you should unquestionably move to Austin. It is, by far, the best place for you to hit "CTRL-ALT-DEL" and start anew. Perhaps a few years down the road you can entertain one of the other cities (both are quite nice), but for now, go to Austin.

And if you have lived in San Diego, you will find Austin comically cheap.

If Texas were a Highschool, Ft worth would be your poor cousin...You love them, but you just dont want to eat lunch with them everyday.

Austin would be that stoner/partier kid...great distraction to the day to day routine, but dont want to hang with him after school.

Wow, this couldn't have anything to do with YOUR attitude, could it? The grass will be the same color in Texas

Much of your self description, and even your handle, points toward you being a good fit in Austin, but then you mention not liking Californians. You need to know that Austin is full of relocated Californians, many of whom are working to make it as much like CA as possible.

I wouldn't worry about (or look forward to, as the case may be) Austin being very much like California.

1751Texan: I can't say that I understand your analogies very well. There are lots of well-to-do people in Fort Worth. And contrary to the stereotype, Austin isn't all frat parties and goofing off.

Default Thanks

Thanks! I have pretty much decided to move to FTW area. I definitely don't want to live a ton of Californians....we just don't see eye to eye. I have a heart, am a REAL person, and don't 420, actually can't stand drugs! I have a few REALLY good offers, now just need to make up my mind! One is renting a room in Saginaw for $390 + utils, and the other is renting a furnished apt in Hurst for $650 incl utils, but has its own fenced in yard and pond

Thank you for the welcome, I already feel at home!

there are plenty more reasons...no jobs, economy sucks, Ca is broken, no family values. Don't get me started. SD is beautiful, and I will miss it some, but there's a place that fits me much better, and its here in TX
