GREAT link, Fillmont!. And very interesting. Thanks for sharing it. I wouldn't have thought pecan pie would be so "popular" outside of Texas/South.

Sorry Reb, but you know when you introduce food in the subject, you're just not going to be able to limit it to only TWO varieties of pie!
LOL Yeah, you are definitely right, Lonestar, and I should know that by now!

Well, you know what they say, ¨the South will rise again, only this time with pecan pie!¨

I prefer neither.... pumpkin looks too slimy to even try and I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes. I usually make a buttermilk and/or cherry pie. Although earlier this year we bought a lemon tree, that's now loaded with lemons, and my hubby requested that I make some type of lemon dessert. So.... I made some lemon bars instead. Nothing like eating something made from freshly sqeezed lemons.

Just for the fun of it, I once did a little informal survey on it, and the "dividing line" appeared to be somewhere close to the Alabama -Georgia border! LOL

In fact, I just may re-do that same "poll" and see if the original results match up again! Stay tuned!
Interesting. I know that Pittsburghers do not say "Pee can", at least the ones that I know!!

Do pumpkin rolls count? I made 2 of those for Thanksgiving and they actually came out pretty good.

We have a pie contest every year. Each little branch of the big familia makes an entry.

For 10 years my brother's Buttermilk Pecan Pie has won...untill my Carmel Apple Pie made it's debut this year. Yes, I am now the holder of the ugly, gold spray-painted pie pan trophy...my name shall forever be written in black sharper for 2009.

We kept it simple at our casa and had a brisket with baked BBQ beans mashed tatters and coleslaw. Desert was punkin pie, punkin roll, punkin bread and fudge.
YUUUM!

I don't care for turkey.

We cook a 20 pounder. No one eats it, but we make some mean green chili the next day with it.

Thanksgiving Day we all go for the Honey Baked Ham.
