Hello everyone, I'm considering to move to either the Port Isabel area or Corpus Christi. I realize that Corpus Christi is a larger area so is not an apples to apples comparison to Port Isabel, where I see places like Laguna Heights and Laguna Vista who look very nice. At the same time being so close to the border, the towns themselves may not be good. House prices look similar on both areas.
Anyone who may have lived or visited for a while both Corpus Christi and Port Isabel areas?

Thanks!

Check out the Corpus Christi forum for similar previous discussions. Port Lavaca would be my choice if you want a good safe place to raise a family. But also check out Rockport.

Port Isabel is a dive. It reminds me of the old coastal shanty towns that existed in Florida back in the day.

Yeah Pt Isabel is kind of trashy but the newer areas around Laguna Vista are pretty nice. They are gated off at night and crime is not so much an issue if you're concerned about that. If you're moving there to be near the beach you really should check both out first; the beach at SPI is nicer than "regular" PI

Corpus Christi is great. Port Isabel isn't bad but CC has so much to offer and so many cool little towns surrounding it. A lot of living options in CC.

Cptn RN had a good point. Rockport- Aransas County is nice with many waterfront properties for sale. I'm currently involved with 10 acres + a 15 acre island as an attorney (not a realtor) and I noticed prices have come down while people still move here. Aransas County schools are hands down way better than anything in the Valley or Corpus-- I lived in the Valley.

Port Lavaca is also nice but a bit more redneck. Port Aransas is pretty but not that much waterfront for sale- a bit more touristy.

port isabel is "trashy" looking because it's a fishing town. the majority of people living there make their livelihoods off the water.

gated communities and matching bermuda grass lawns are not important to everyone...

some people have different priorities..
