I would love for H.E.B. to come to the Dallas area. Tom Thumb and Albertson's are way overpriced, and there aren't enough Kroger's around and there prices are just so-so. I find myself going to Walmart way too often, but their Neighborhood Markets aren't too bad, though they lack a great selection and are sometimes higher than the regular WM Superstores. I did find this:

HEB is due to expand into DFW in 2010, correct? I know Central Market is their botique store in the region though.

If I lived in Texas, I wouldn't shop at Albertsons or Brookshires to save my life. All the Albertson's in FL were awful, but considering that Publix is the dominant store in that state (and quite dominant here in Atlanta), all the other grocery stores in the state seem to find themselves on the sidelines because they have to compete w/Publix on customer service/style and Walmart on price.

Brookshires sold me some expired seafood salad, so I'll NEVER shop there again.

Is Market Street by United a good chain? They seem to have a lot of them in the DFW area.

Market Street only operates about 10 stores in the DFW and West Texas regions. The chain operates almost 50 more stores under the United banner. Most of them operate in rural communities or smaller metropolitans such as Lubbock.

United is a chain that's headquartered in Lubbock. Market Street is a specialty store that has a much larger selection than regular Uniteds and has coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants within the store. The original one in Lubbock has been open for about ten years and it's still as nice as if it were brand new. They also have another specialty store called Amigos that's basically a Market Street catering to the Hispanic population. IMO, I could see it giving HEB a run for its money.

Except that HEB is THE dominant chain in San Antonio, Austin, and South Texas. HEB stores are much larger than any format United offers. HEB also offers the HEB Plus concept. These stores are larger than Wal-Mart Supercenters. They also have Central Market and new hybrid stores that make the upscale Market Street stores look ghetto.

They have been expanding into Houston in recent years, and are planning on emerging into the DFW scene next year. They have locations in West Texas, East Texas, and even Mexico!

HEB is the 11th largest private company in the United States.

Simply put United is much to small of a chain to even be on HEB's radar yet. Even Lowe's has more locations than United!

Haha, I guess. Both are very quality grocery stores that I have heard only positive things about.

In Abilene, it is a tie, as far as I am concerned, between United and HEB. I do not like Albertson's--high prices. Fiesta has limited selections.
