I grew up in Midland and can attest that a large majority of West Texas (mostly small cities under 10,000) is strongly conservative.

I grew up in East Texas, in the 1950's. I laugh often when I hear the stereotypes of what Texas is supposed to be.

Texas is for the most part live and let live. One thing most of us have in common is the desire to keep the government out of our lives. You don't tell a Texan how their money will be spent, how their land will be used, and that they MUST buy something. The bigger government gets, the more fiscally conservative Texans are going to dig in...we may even have a few moderates and independants join us in the future.
"I'll keep my guns, I'll keep my money, I'll keep my freedom."

Unless youre gay of course.

Seriously though, Texas is very live and let live, but when it comes to issues relating to the homosexual community, I dont think it is. Of course Dallas, Houston, Austin, and all the other major cities are gay friendly. Outside that, there arent many gay friendly areas.

Do you have personal experience of this? If not, how do you know?

I have friends who have personal experiance with it.

I have faith it will change over time, but there are certain places in the state that still have a ways to go.

Really? You don't think 'gays' want the government to stop telling them they can't get married?

Besides this thread is about TEXANS/Texas, and last time I looked a TEXAN can be any sex. TEXANS normally don't pull out the "I'm special/the exception because.." card.

Absolutely. That's why we confuse some folks.

Exactly what I was thinking. Here in Houston it seems to have gotten a little more Liberal than it already was. I think it will become more liberal in the future.

Haha, nice one. Everyone hates the Government, except when they are keeping the gays down.
