$1300/mo or less? well, um, that would be like anywhere in Texas! you are used to NE prices being from NJ. welcome to the land of inexpensive rentals...i never paid more than $500/mo for a 2-3 br rental home, but then again, i always lived in the country, but close enough to big cities to commute.
just look at the apartment guides online and choose your city-Corpus, San Antonio, El Paso, whatever, and you will see how low the rents are
welcome to the friendliest state in the union

Ronda,

you should not have much trouble finding a place for that money. My thought is why would you rent instead of buying a house? You can get a lot more house for a lower payment than renting. And you build equity and get a tax break for the interest payments. If you plan on staying only a year then renting is ok. But for long term living I would definately buy.

Any city in Texas is going to be pretty diverse. You won't have any trouble fitting in. You might consider living in the central TX area if for no other reason than it is the "center" of the state. Easier to travel to different places than if you chose one of the more "edge" cities. Best of luck to you.

Rick

Rhonda,

You may want to consider looking in Plano or Mc Kinney. Mc Kinney has a nice area called Stonebridge Ranch that I read also has very nice apartments for rent. The area has bike trails, lakes, a beautiful man made beach and so much more. Go to their website for more info at www.stonebridgeranch.com
I think you will be please.

Good Luck and best wishes to you and your family!

Cami
