wawaski, take no offense to this since it is coming from a younger generation, but I grew up in victoria and i would consider it the perfect retirement spot. right now i'm a young professional, so I had to get away from Victoria to create a better life for myself.

later on, I could see myself going back home to spend my golden years, but for a young up and coming, not the place to be.

I don't know about kayaking too much. The Guadalupe river can be rough, and we do have alligators. There are plenty of open highways nearby to cycle, but i'm not sure if the drivers down there are used to it yet so i'd be cautious. I have a buddy who rides a motorcycle still down there, and he's had plenty of close calls.

Other than that, it's a beautiful city down on the coastal bend. Close enough to the larger cities, yet far enough that it can still be considered seperate small place of its own.
