Default Is a blue Texas inevitable?

Many Texas republicans privately believe by 2020 the state will be a tossup. They only get about 35% of the latino vote and they won't cut in the future. They just don't what to do about it. The GOP wins on average 70% of the white vote and Mccain won 72%. The latino vote was 62-35 Obama and it was 20% and Mccain won statewide with 56%. When the Latino vote is 30% the GOP could have a real problem. Some say the GOP is safe through 2020 but who knows. Without Texas the GOP is finished nationally.

and where are you getting this wonderful but probably wrong information? Remember all the latest polls (if you can trust polls) show more people all the time are considering themselves conservative even if they are not registered Republican...I may add one more thing, basing anything whether you want to believe it or not, on 2008 is like saying the entire country would soon be RED after Reagan won in 1980. 2008s election had more to do with wanting anything connected with the old administration out, than trends toward the Democrats..

I've said this a million times. While California's heavy social spending didn't help, they went broke because a HUGE portion of their tax base dried up in an 18-month period.

That HAS happened in good ol' conservative Texas, too, and could easily happen again. Go back and research the energy collapse of the late 1980s. The housing market in Texas was decimated. The low prices you see today are a direct result of a housing market that only began to recover from a complete collapse about a decade or so ago.

I'm a Indie not a Republican't , I just don't see Texas becoming a
California (when) they do become BLUE , because their's tax structure
would remain the same...no other State will follow in "the foot steps" of
California...because everyone see the folly of it..!!

Another factor you forgot to mention: The African-American vote. Most African-Americans vote Democrat anyway, and in this past election, a very high African-American voter turnout and at least 9 out of every 10 African-American voters voted Democrat. Most African-Americans I have been in contact with have said that they do not trust the GOP. Myself personally, I don't trust the GOP either. The way I see it, Texas could go blue alot sooner than you think.

You also have the city of Austin to think about, which is relatively liberal.

yes, like most college towns and towns where the state capital is are more liberal, but as for the blacks, that depends on many things. To say they do not trust the GOP is not really using ones brain. I happen to know a few blacks in both NM and NoVa that are Republicans. Again, which has been said a million times, no way was 2008 a picture of the future...You personally not trusting someone has little to do with the overall picture. I would like to add, most blacks don't vote except in 2008..
