Hello I just had a quick question My husband is getting stationed at ft.hood and I have been reading up on scorpions and it makes me nervous to think that they could be in my home when I have little ones running and crawling around so should I expect to see scorpions if we live on base, or in a home or apartment near the killeen/temple area?

i wouldn't worry too much about it. my cousin told me that in the 9 yrs he lived in the area, he only saw a scorpion once, and it was nowhere near the home

aside from the occasional spider, ant, or cockroach, bugs are generally not an issue in this region of the state. those tiny silver bugs found around sinks and tubs are what you'll see more than anything

but as far as scorpions go, the only time i've ever heard of one being spotted in the house is in newly constructed neighborhoods. i guess it has something to do with the excess rubble. who knows

There's only one species of scorpion in central Texas, the striped bark scorpion. They're not aggressive and unless you're allergic to them, their sting is not much worse than that of a paper wasp.

I live in the Ft Hood area and I have never seen one in my apartment ever. I do see them all the time in Austin at my mom's house though.

I think they're all over central Texas.

Had them in Austin. Once in my bed, once in the bathtub. They like to hide from people.

Also plan on a move to Ft Hood area. Very concerned about scorpion problems. Like to hear any personal observations on subject.
