McAllen. Probably better entertainment as well with concerts and such. It's surrounded by cities that are rapidly growing as well. And for the person who said we have two barnes and nobles, Hastings just shut down, fyi.

did Hastings really close down? Every time I would pass by, it seemed it was always packed. Hmmm I'm going to pass by it today just to see if it is true.

My understanding is McAllen is sort of the shopping and retail center for that part of the RGV, but I could be wrong.

The eastern part of the RGV is surprisingly nice. I was half expecting it to be semi third world, but it isn't. It's certainly not University Park, but it has its own unique charm. Can't say what things are like further from the Gulf though.

You're correct, War Beagle. Once one is west of the McAllen/Mission area, it deteriorates quite a bit. At that point, it's mostly very small towns, ranch country, & smuggling routes. A lot of Mission is a little dicey--I have to laugh every time I see posters on this board touting Mission (esp Sharyland), as the "best" place to live in the RGV.
