What does West Texas have to offer anyways? Its so desolate out there with the exception of El Paso.

Yes I have driven through West Texas on the way out of Texas and wasn't that impressed with the scenery or what I can remember (it was a very boring drive). Although I have been looking into Albany which I have heard alot of good things about. I have also been looking into areas in the Hill Country but it seems that I find an interesting spot and then I discover that the schools suck, or there is a big drug problem, or that there was a swinger's club in town exploiting children....maybe there is no escape or my perception of small town living is distorted.

Consider Greenville. It has a small town feel, big city convieniences as far as shopping, hospitals, and affordable housing. And, it's only about an hours drive from Dallas on I-30.

I thought I could get some imput to narrow my search for safe and friendly small towns because going through a map is incredibly grueling as there is a large amount of towns near Dallas. I certainly did not ask for anybody to list me every small town w/i a 250 mile radius. I have lived in Dallas all my life and for reasons too lengthy to elborate on I am seeking to move out of Dallas and head to a small town where we can live a more "simple" life. My whole family is here so I wouldn't want wherever I live to be to far to drive back here on a weekend (the reason for the 250 mile radius). Thank you EasilyAmused and Farnorthdallas for your feedback....that's all I was wanting, just some recommendations.
let me get this straight. you've lived in Dallas your whole life but don't have a good idea of which small town within 250 miles to move to for a simpler life?

If you've lived in Big D your whole life and are at a loss to answer this question for yourself, then you obviously have not gotten out very much. I'm saying this because living in a small town is not always as simple as it sounds, especially for someone that has lived in a major metropolitan area their whole life and feels the need to ask this kind of question about their locale.

I'm puzzled, seriously.

Me too. I've always liked the Eastland to Abilene area but never lived there. Abilene is only about 200 miles out.
