I was laid off from a full time job in 3/2009 and have been collecting unemployment. In November 2009, I started working a part-time job that paid significantly less than my previous full time job (just to make ends meet and have a little extra during the holidays).

However, I recently quit that part-time job to move to California to continue my fulltime job search. (I could no longer afford rent so I moved in with a relative in CA) I was disqualified entirely from unemployment benefits . Has anyone encountered a similar situation? I would like to appeal but I don't know what my chances are?

You can't get unemployment benefits from a job you voluntarily left.

I think if you moved to another state you are not entitled to TX unemployment--your employer here pays into that state fund--

there are reasons why you could be eligibe to continue UEB if you had to leave a job...
she was only being paid the difference between avg part time wage and what her full UEB would have been...

Both my husband and I were receiving unemployment in Phoenix and lost it when we left the state.

And, as someone stated, you cannot collect unemployment when you voluntarily leave a position.

Sorry. I understand your position. We moved to MN since we both lost our jobs and my family is here. We needed to regroup before heading to Austin, but have had do it without unemployment benefits.

It may be just the way I'm reading it, but I think the poster is saying she took a part time job while still collecting unemployment from losing her full-time job and wants to know if that unemployment (from the full-time position, not the part-time job she quit) is still available?

You moved to a state that's broke. I doubt TX will continue your support and CA probably can't.

Now if you were an illegal alien you might get some type of CA benefit. Best thing to do is get some type of job to get you by.

TXNGL- yes, that is exactly my question. I was collecting partial unemployment while working part-time (as a supplement to unemployment benefits from a full-time job). Now that I voluntarily left the part-time job to move to CA, I have been disqualified from unemployment benefits all together. Should unemployment benefits still be available?

not when you MOVE out of state--
check the TX Workforce commission web site
I am sure there is info there about why you can lose UEB--
although when my son was on it last year, he was supposed to receive payments through a debit-card type of arrangment--
they are not mailing checks to receipients anymore
so I don't know how they would know unless you closed your TX account at the bank...

Not as I understand it. It's a state thing.
