I did always consider Dallas a Southern City, but always, before and after living in Houston, found it to be much more country. Not that there's anything wrong with either. As you said, different observations. I personally love both cities.
I meant it more in the sense of the image, I think Dallas has that more country/texas persona, while Houston, not as much.

But the image is hardly ever the truth, so it doesn't matter, but the image still remains.

And lets just forget about it, this has been talked about before anyhow...

And @ debzkidz, are there not that many farms or rodeos in DFW? I know we have the HLS&R, but still.

I'm not saying these things aren't there. What I'm saying is that until I moved to Houston, I never knew anyone who cared about these things. No, Dallas doesn't have a rodeo as big as Houstons. In Houston it was like there was something wrong with you if you didn't go. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, I enjoyed the rodeo. It was just something new to me.

You have to be kidding. Houston is one of the least desirable places to live in the entire country.

All of the Houston fanboys jumped on this thread because Houstonians have serious image issues due to the city being one big flat, humid, bug infested city that always feels as if it is better than perceived by outsiders.

I'd take Dallas ANY day over Houston.

^^^To buzzpost and atxcio, I think both are crazy exagerations.

The truth lies somewhere in between.

Both are nice cities, both are diverse and international (yes, Houston is moreso), both offer resturants for every taste, both have large presences from most nationalities, both offer night clubs for almost every taste (both have things they do better than the other in that department), both have lots of shopping (Dallas has a slight edge there), both have major airports that will take you to any corner of the world nonstop, and yes I believe that both are desirable places to live.

Frankly, I fail to see how you could love one and hate the other. To people who arent from Texas, they arent that drastically different.

I know. I was simply making the point of how easy it is to throw something completely whacked out there, with no real substance, to put down either city. Buzzpost's statement works for both cities, just change a word or two.

The same thing could also be done for posts praising either city -- in reality, they are far more similar than different. But then, most of America is becoming homogeneous like that...

Oh really? Could have fooled me! And about 4 million other people, as well as those who continue to flock to Houston each week...

Dallas is mostly flat, doesn't have great weather, and has bugs too. At least last time I checked. And so do lots of other great cities... not everywhere can be a San Francisco! Have you ever read up on the early beginnings of Chicago?

Ever since living in Houston, it's always amazed me how so many other long-term Texans have such disdain and lack of respect for the state's largest and perhaps most dynamic city... and the site where Texas was won. It's just really sad. Lots Houston has to be proud for that not only goes unnoticed and ignored, but trash-talked on top of it. Is this something you're proud of?

Interesting you would think so. Apparently, you're a minority.

Most overrated or overhyped Texas city

You should be more careful and less insulting with your words next time. Having a little more of an open mind and doing some research on Houston might help too. Back in the 70's or 80's other Texans could probably trash-talk Houston and totally get away with it, but it's a totally different city today.

I spent 7 business days in Houston working 2 weeks ago. To be honest I was absolutely flabergasted by the seething hatred that alot of people have for Dallas down there. I would go into meetings, say that I was from our Dallas office, and get an earful of why they hate Dallas. I had one woman (who was Vietnamese) tell me she through Vietnamese people from Dallas were classless FOB's. I had a man sit me down and talk to me for 5 minutes about why he hated Dallas (everything from the way people dress to people being too uptight). I had another girl tell me I was "clueless" for chooseing to live in Dallas over Houston.

Im sorry, but when our Houston rep comes up to Dallas for meeting, Ive never heard anyone say anything negative about Hosuton to him. I mean, my God, THESE ARE BUSINESS MEETINGS!

So dont think for a moment that Houston is in that boat all by itself.
