I think one thing that kills it for downtown Houston and I even have to say downtown Dallas does better is displaying signage. To me, the stupid sign ordinance for downtown makes downtown appear bland and unsafe in certain areas. The downtown Mcdonalds in Houston are so plain and office style looking while San Fransico, Dallas and probably every other major city on this earth besides Houston have some style to them.

Downtown Dallas has huge signs on the skyscrapers in downtown. I have never seen a "office style" McDonald's?!?

I thought the signage ordinance only effected the top of the buildings? I know Continental got a pass when they wanted to illuminate the top of their tower with their logo at night. I happen to like that the top of Houston's Downtown buildings are slapped with corporate names. Other parts of Houston don't have this though.

office style in my definition is plain and unexciting.

And i never said Dallas didn't have signs on their downtown. If you read my post, i was saying that was something Dallas did better than Houston.

It's actually no higher than 80 ft or something like that. Although, they have made recent exceptions with the Pavilions.

Houston Pavilions is not that tall......and all of the renderings are a little more interesting and edgy than the real product in person...kinda like the first renderings of the Winspear were Waaaaay better than the finished product....but the finished product is still stunning.

They're not done completely yet. More stores are coming in, but yeah the buildings, not as impressive as the renderings.
