I think you just more or less answered your own questions. Texas is large and does offer so much more. As Momof2dfw says, it would take all night to cover it. Houstoner, I loved your answer. You are so right. East Texans will talk about West Texans, etc., but just let somebody from out of state say something about any part of the state. To put it on a smaller scale, it's the same if you have two high schools in your town. They will be each other's biggest rivals, but let one of them go on to the playoffs and the other one will become one of their strongest supporters. And yes AnthonySA, it is starting to get too crowded. We need to figure out someway to keep this under control. As far as bragging....aw, you think we really do that? It's really not bragging, it's just telling it like it really is. A good friend of mine, a rancher here in Texas, got to talking to an old boy in a bar one time over in Fort Worth. The Okie was a rancher too and they both got to bragging about the size of their ranches. The Okie told my friend it took him a better part of a day to drive across his ranch. My friend told him, yeah, he once owned a truck like that, but he didn't keep it for long. The only thing I'd know to say to you people who hate it here... is....haul ass! Life's too short to be miserable |

You stated that my post was "misleading". I answered the questions posed truthfully. Texas did not keep me there and I did/do see myself living elsewhere - so how is that "misleading"? |

Twinkle Toes - Your post was not misleading. It was your perception of where you were in Texas. Why does everyone in Texas think that everyone here is supposed to like it? Everyone's perception is different. Every state has people who like it and people who don't. I keep seeing people say they are sick of hearing negative things about Texas over and over again. Well maybe some of us are sick of seeing people say how wonderful it is over and over again. This is called the Texas Forum, not the Pro-Texas Forum. We have a right to speak of our perception of the place we live in. I've also seen people say that if you don't like it then move. My answer to that is: Loan me the money and I will. Now I hope people see this soon because its about to be deleted for being off -topic. But I do think that it addresses "Why do you stay in Texas? and Would you live anywhere else?"

Saying that people only go to texas for cheap housing is OPINION, not truth and by saying you are telling the "truth" you are misleading people. Same thing if I said that South California people are fake, again it is "opinion" not true and by me saying it it would be misleading!

Also, I didn't say that cheap housing was the ONLY reason people move to Texas. I said it was A reason. |

I found this and thought it was funny. It doesn't really apply to me but YES to my parents with the exception of the boots and you have to add a 6th spice, garlic powder. They wouldn't be at home anywhere else but Texas. They would be fish out of water.
You Know You're from TEXAS when... You only know five spices -- salt, pepper, Ranch dressing, BBQ Sauce and hot sauce. You design your Halloween costume to fit over Wranglers and cowboy boots. The mosquitoes have landing lights. You have more miles on your tractor than your car. You have 10 favorite recipes for Deer meat. You've taken your kids trick-or-treating when it was 90 degrees outside. (or put up Christmas lights when it was 80 outside.) Driving is better after it's rained because the potholes are filled with mud and you don't have to take those backroads to go "mudding." You think sexy lingerie is tube-socks and a flannel nightie with only 8 buttons. You owe more money on your bulldozer than your car. The local paper covers national and international headlines on 1/4 page, but requires 6 pages for local sports. You can write a check at Dairy Queen for 2 Hungr-Busters and fries. At least twice a year, the kitchen doubles as a meat processing plant. The most effective mosquito repellent is a shotgun. Your leaf-blower gets stuck on the roof. You think the start of Deer season is a national holiday. You frequently clean grease off your barbecue so the coyotes won't prowl on your deck. You know which leaves make good toilet paper. The major county fund-raiser isn't bingo - it's sausage making. You find 70 degrees Fahrenheit a little chilly. The trunk of your car doubles as a sauna. You attend a formal event in your best clothes, your finest jewelry, and your cowboy boots. You know 4 seasons - Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer and Deer Season. You actually get these jokes and forward them to all your Texan friends |
