I live in Abilene and have for over 20yrs, so here is my response.

Humidity can be bad, just depends what you are used to. People from Nevada will say its too humid here, but people in Louisiana won't.

Abilene has mild winters. Usually it starts getting around 90degree weather by mid April. Summers are usually around 100, although one summer we had 2yrs ago was pretty mild. The hot air does not cool off that fast at night, it will remain 90degrees even 2 or 3 hours after the sun goes down. Abilene weather can change in a blink of an eye also, as the Dairy Queen commercial says. I've seen it be 20degrees in february one day and in 24hrs be in the high 80s. Or even temperature drops by more than half in winter or doubling.

Allergies are bad in Abilene though. I've met several people that have come from out of state to live here (military or otherwise) and they often develop allergies. And when they leave they tell me their allergies went away.

I used to go to Abilene to shop etc.It was a bit more humid than out west 100 miles or so.But I enjoyed the Zoo their their Mall and that it was easy to get around from I-20.I always thought man this would be a good place to live,or in Sweetwater.

Well. I suspect that JCSM has made a decision about Abilene or not. However, I'm going to put in my two cents worth, considering I moved here last year from the same general area as JCSM (north Arkansas).

I can tell you that the humidity is much lower here. It is hotter here, but it not quite as unbearable because of the lower humidity. Generally speaking from a weather perspective, we like it much better. There's also significantly fewer mosquitoes here than in Arkansas. Tornadoes are no worse or better here.

Mountain Home is a nice rural area in the foothills of the Ozarks. If you can get used to relatively flat land with extremely different vegetation, you might like it. There are numerous things that won't grow here that will grow in MH.

I highly recommend Abilene.
