Brady is the only town in the area with a Wal-Mart. People from cities like Menard and Mason drive 30 miles to go to the Wal-Mart. (My sister-in-law lives in Menard.) That's the biggest draw about Brady. There's an old horse racing track (Rollie White Downs), but it's just used for training now. Oh, and there's the lake. As for the rest of the town, most of the kids are big into 4H/FFA and showing livestock. I think there is still a skating rink (if it hasn't gone out of business). Honestly, there isn't much for kids to do there.
There are also very few jobs and little industry besides ranching...

I have not been to Brady in several years, but I used to know some people from there. It seems like a nice town. I would not be opposed to living there. It is rural, which may be positive or negative, depending on your state of mind. I just have not spent enough time there to answer your questions with any good information. Good luck.

If you can't afford land in the Hill Country area, then the Brady area is next best bet. It's situated just above the Texas Hill Country where the land starts leveling off a bit (from hills). From pictures I've seen, it seems like a very rural area and hardly any traffic or development. If that's the kind of lifestyle you want, then you sure can't beat it. I don't see development threatening this region for at least another 50 years.

I go to high school in Brady Tx
Well I saw your add and just though that I might try and help. I am a senior at Brady High School. The community is very friendly here and if you want to live in a small town Brady is the best. We are building a new high school and we are also getting a super walmart which will come in handy. There is a lot of road construction going on right now but it will make our main street look a whole lot more appealing! Contact me if you need anymore information!

I forgot to tell you...we get little rain during the year and not really any tornado or flood warnings. The kids here are very close and we welcome any newcomers into our group! Honestly I would buy a house in the middle of town close to the high school. We have beautiful country neighborhoods!

Wow! shorton has caused more intrigue for me about Brady. What great posts from a nice teen.
I really want to live around the mountains of VA, but I doubt I'll ever move that far away from my family and children. Time will tell; I may be able to convince my grown children to go with me in due course.
The Hill Country was a thought for me as well, very lovely, but as TexasNick proclaimed, very expensive.
I work for the Texas school system now; maybe I could find a job with the Brady schools. I actually have been planning to take a quick trip out that way around Brady and Junction as well and hope to do so soon. I have checked both places out on the web as well as real estate which looks quite reasonable.
shorten, is it nice and green out your way or dry and dusty? I speaking normally, not since we (and I guess you as well) have had ever so much rain, an unusual happening.

I grew up in Junction and graduated from JHS in 1990. I still have family there but have not been back in several years. It is a nice enough town. As with all small towns there are all kinds of characters: a few unhappy citizens who always seem to want to be elsewhere, some folks who have never lived anywhere else and then just normal people. I think the school is pretty good. It has been a while since I was a student there though.
Best of luck to you.
