Default Who knows about Midland and Odessa

I am looking for any and all information about Midland and Odessa. Weather, hospitals, doctors, cost of living, etc.. As much detail as possible. What do you know about state and local taxes. How about property taxes?

I used to live in Lubbock and passed thru Midland-Odessa a time or two. West Tx is flat and not many trees, like west Kansas and Oklahoma or eastern Colorado, the high plains have a beauty all their own and you can see for hundreds of miles. I call it being able to "see tomorow's weather coming" today. You won't need the weather channel, it's out your window and comin' straight out of the Rockies or up from Mexico or the Gulf. Life is a slower pace, the towns are spread out. You'll have dust storms and sometimes the rain and snow fall sideways instead of down. Sometimes the rain is mud! It's a "brown-out" (as in the Arizona deserts) as opposed to a "white-out" in Colorado in the winter. People are usually nice and laid back and talk real slow, don't hurry much and wave to each other on the road.
No state tax, property taxes and cost of living are low.

Property tax is actually pretty outrageous because of the lack of a state income tax, our house is valued at just over 160k and we pay about 1800 every year in property tax. When you think Midland....no wait, actually, don't think Midland. Think of a real town. Any real town. Hell, Baghdad is probably better run than this place. If you spend 10 minutes here you will see exactly what I'm talking about, use a word with more than 3 syllables in it and everyone looks at you like a dog that's just been shown a card trick.

That's much cheaper than Fort Worth. My house was appraised at 140K and my taxes are about $3400!

Your comments are really uncalled-for and ignorant; they say more about you than those around you.

So get out of Midland; it will be far better off without you. Midland property taxes are dirt-cheap compared to some other areas in Texas, as other posters have noted.
