The Hill Country is my favorite, followed closely by the Piney Woods.

Different folks will have different opinions. It all depends on what an individual considered pleasing. I consider all of the areas listed as pleasing, but would I want to live there? Depends.

HILL COUNTRY! No comparison. Especially the areas around the chain of lakes on the Colorado river and Canyon Lake. Living there is one thing and finding gainful employment another.

1. Piney Woods with small hills.
2. Hill Country (too bad about the dry landscapes and short, scrubby trees)
3. Coastal (love the coast/beach but I'd rather to east to FL or south to Mexico for the better water)

BTW I noticed you forgot the desert/rock/mountain, like in far west TX. Some people may like that the best.

I like all of them, actually. I grew up on the Gulf Coast, spent lots of time with all of my grandparents in South Texas and in the Piney Woods/East Tx, and currently live near the Hill Country. I have lots of family in and around Dallas as well (Cousins and Aunts). West Tx. is the only part of Tx. I don't have much experience with.

Depends on what one likes--all of the areas mentioned are pretty and fun to vist, but give me the Big Bend country any day.

I personally wouldn't live in any of the listed areas, given the choice! Different strokes....

But where in the world would you live full time there? Or I should ask, could you/would you live full time there?

The Big Bend area includes Alpine, Fort Davis and Marfa--as well as Marathon and other tiny places.

I am checking listings in all three (Alpine, primarily) areas, but there is very little available at this point.

The biggest problem with Alpine is that much of the area is in a flood plain (!!!), and flood insurance is required if there is a loan. Even if I didn't take out a loan, it will bite when it comes time to sell.

I would not want to live anywhere else in Texas. I like El Paso, but it's HOT--and the property taxes are just ridiculous.
