Austin and San Antonio's cultures trump Houston's. Houston's is not as unique. |

San Antonio is the most romantic, followed by Galveston.
Houston is the most diverse and Dallas is the most sophiscated Fort Worth and El Paso are very underrated and Austin is the most overrated Corpus Christi has the most natural potential -could be the next San Diego Waco/Temple is sneaking up, Lubbock is a cool hip, Amarillo is well Amarillo Denton is a jazz center, Shreveport will finally become a Texas city Wichita Falls & Abilene needs more publicity, Midland Odessa-is just wealthy Brownsville/McAllen/Padre Isle will boom and Laredo will improve it image The Hill Country will continue to be California East Tyler & Longview will change its neck image |

for its size Denton has no competition in terms of arts and music. its the only "towny" city in Texas that has this. jazz is only a small part about whats unique about denton when compared to other areas in texas. Denton pretty much makes every other towny part in texas blend into one because Denton is so dynamic and ecclectic. i liked ur comments though. specially the one about corpus. |

I love Houston, San Antonio, and all the small towns between (Gonzales, Seguin, Shiner, etc). I've practically grown up along I-10.

My favorite is the eastern Hill Country area (New Braunfels + San Marcos), because of the natural scenery with the spring-fed streams, and proximity to Austin and San Antonio. Austin and San Antonio each have distinct "local flavor," and being right in the middle gives you access to the best parts of both, but without having to deal with the worst parts (like traffic) on a daily basis.
Dallas and Houston are so enormous that it seems they should have everything, yet from the few times I've passed through I haven't gotten a feel for the cities other than brain-numbing traffic. I mean, I ask people from the Dallas area where to visit, and they say Ft. Worth (which I did enjoy visiting for a novelty), and I ask people from the Houston area where to visit, and they say Galveston (no offense, but I'm spoiled by white-sand beaches in AL & FL). Maybe a more in-depth trip to Dallas and Houston would improve my opinion. |

First of all.... I just love TX! I grew up there and have lots of family all over. I've been here in KY for almost 5 years and can't wait to move back to TX this summer. Anyway....
San Antonio is my fav. (lived there for 7 yrs) Ft. Worth is a neat city and is really getting a face lift! Fredericksburg is a fun tourist city... lots of German influence there Lubbock is a fun college town (Go Tech! I lived there for 17yrs) Abilene is a nice smaller town (went to college there and loved it) Austin is a fun artsy city Hopefully Longview will soon be added to this list, since we will be moving there this summer. It sure is beautiful there! Basically... TX is such a diverse, neat state.... you can't go wrong there |
