I love Fredericksburg in Hill Country. Is very clean, pretty area, lots to do, nice shops, B&Bs, etc. Has the fruit stands in summer for the great Texas peaches, etc.

Hmm, that is like asking which ice cream is better, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate chip cookie dough, etc. Just depends on what your in the mood for. Living in Temple as I do, I like it. I miss San Angelo and the West Texas area a lot. Junction/Fredericksburg/Kerrville is really nice. I like Victoria and the Gulf Coast region, too. Tough question....  |

exactly like RSTX says, it depends on what you're in the mood for.
overall favorite BIG cities are Ft Worth and Amarillo
overall favorite smaller cities are San Angelo and Abilene
but i dont like "cities" in terms of living in them, but sometimes nice to visit

San Marcos, New Braunfels, Fredericksburg is a neat little town also.
San Antonio as a travel destination and I've always loved Austin if only the traffic wasn't so darn bad there.

East Dallas is my home, I love it and I shall never leave (except to travel), but I like Austin and Houston (yes, really) and SA Riverwalk was my first trip ever away from my parents as a teenager...Fort Worth is OK if you are going to Joe T's. I also love the Hill Country, Enchanted Rock, Lost Maples, Fredricksburg, Wimberly, etc. Are not Gruene Hall and the Guadalupe heaven?
My family has had a place at Lake Texoma since 1961 and that lake has a special place in my heart. As do the YMCA camps at Possum Kingdom Lake.
Paris was my parent's home and I love that town - it has a beautiful, elaborate, almost-European fountain in the town square. I also love Galveston. Monahans Sand Hills is a weird place but neat and Fort Davis and Alpine are cool. Only been to Big Bend and Padre once, but liked them...

Outside of Houston... Dallas and then Austin in that order. El Paso is underrated as well.
And San Antonio is another cool destination.

It's not a city, but my favorite place to visit in Texas is Big Bend. When I lived in Kerrville it was only a 6 1/2 hour drive and we did it often. Now it's more like 10 1/2 hours and we'd have to do it with a whiny 8-year-old. But I can still close my eyes and pretend to be lying on a flat rock at the top of the Lost Mine trail....
