and you don't understand, no one is saying What-a-burger will be out of business or even In N Out will take business away from them, many are simply saying the store will be a complete success. Do I understand the Whataburger following? Of course I do, we lived in Texas for 13 plus years.

Whataburger is not close to In-N-Out though. It has a following, but not the rabid following of In-N-Out.

Maybe we need a Whataburger vs. In-n-Out smackdown thread.

I haven't had In-N-Out, but I'd like to try it. I hope that it is as good as people say. A quality business deserves customers, and they sound like a quality business.

One question though; why the HELL would they put an In-N-Out burger in Garland instead of a place like Arlington (in the middle of the metroplex where it would get far more business)?

I am NEVER going to drive to Garland to get an In-N-Out burger. But if it was in Arlington, I'd give it a shot.

rumor has it about 4 or 5 more will be opening up shortly after the one in Garland. Let's hope you will all get a chance to taste one and judge for yourself.

Given their numerous locations throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona, do you really think that they would only open one location in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area?

The location in Garland will be on the outskirts of a super-regional mall that has well over 100,000 homes in its trade area and average household incomes above $80k. Highway 78 and the GB turnpike extension(to I-30 once finished) are major arteries throughout Northeast Dallas and Southeastern Collin counties.

Give it time....one near the stadiums in Arlington is inevitable.

I bet they are the same. Both are always compared and if you put up a poll and asked the general population; neither would have an extreme lead over the other. They are both respected as the top fast-food chains in their region.

They are not the same. Whataburger doesnt do fresh ingredients. In that regard they are like every other fast food joint. I dont know what it is people think sets Whataburger apart, I think they are good, not great.
Now, saying that, I hate to oversell In N Out, because there will be those that try it and say: "whats the big deal". If you like a plain burger with no veggies you will probably be one of those. If you like all the fresh veggies and onion slice w/the cheese, then you will get it. Even if you are a light eater, youve got to do the double/double, you dont have to finish it.
The other thing, I havent seen mentioned, is that the burger they give you will look as good as their advertising pictures. Nobody does that better. Also in Texas where the odd mustard burger is the thing, In N Out doesnt do that. They have their own sauce which is more of a west coast thing.

Is mustard an option instead of their sauce? If not, then no, I definitely won't be trying it. I don't do 'sauces' with my burgers. At all.

Of course. "Animal style" In-n-Out burgers have pickles, extra spread, grilled onions, and mustard. Ordering mustard only should be a snap.
