I loved FNLs and always looked forward to it and even recorded sometimes. Great characters and story lines. Even though I am "out in the West Texas town of El Paso", football is big business here. Our biggest problem is that they have divided up the schools so there isn't the big talent pool that you have in the Midland- Odessa , Abilene schools. Therefore , it is rare when one of our schools beats an Odessa-Midland school. Ft. Hancock did win several state titles with their 6 man football teams. Canutillo HS did go to the semis last year and the little town of Canutillo went crazy over it.

I also , in my humble opinion , think that because of football, are bands are the best in the nation. High School band is a big deal here. The band at Allen HS is over 600 IIRC. Directors at the big schools are like coaches, if they don't produce UIL winners , then they are out. One can look at our Universities and College band programs and hear and feel the pride that goes into the hours of hard work and dedication that has filtered up from our HS music programs.

El Paso teams have been beating Midland Lee more often than back in the day.
