I've written a letter to the chairman of the TSU English Department suggesting that she holds a remedial grammar and capitalization course.

Im pretty sure this tour will convince you that houston is the texas city for what your asking.
Houston, and the suburbs like Missouri City and Pearland have a significant upper middle class AA population. Near Dallas, southern suburbs like Cedar Hill, Lancaster, De Soto, and Duncanville have significantly high upper middle class AA populations. From what I HEAR from native Texans, as long as you're not in a podunk East Texas town that is 95% white, you'll be fine.

While I agree with you the OP will be fine, can you name one "podunk" town in East Texas that is 95% white? Or are you just trying to get in a subtle "dig" to demonstrate how morally superior you are compared to those "racist" rednecks? Maybe I mis-read -- and if so, I sincerely apologize -- but that is the way it comes across.
On a tangent, it was really not all that long ago that blacks were the majority minority in Texas. African-Americans still are in East Texas...

I was hoping I wouldn't have to mention the obvious. In an area with a fair share of AAs, don't you find it a little odd that there are still places like this in East Texas. I'm not being morally superior, just stating the obvious. I never used the "r" word. That would be you. There are many blacks in East Texas, and that was my point. Why would an area with so many still have places like this?

And what exactly do blacks have to fear in a podunk East Texas town that's 95% white?
I live in San Diego,Ca and I'm considering the move to Houston or Austin. I'm a medical Assistant and I've worked in the ER Dept as an Patient Access Representative.I'm considering a position with United Health Group. I live in a the suburbs of San Diego and its considered one of the 3 Top Schools In San Diego. I'm looking for something in the suburbs(Town-home or Condo) 3-4 BR/2-3 BA lots of space:^) a nice home would be great,or in an area with lots of children,Family Oriented neighborhoods,Easy transportation to downtown,City life. I will have to depend on public transportation for a little while but I just want to make sure that it easy to travel. I'm looking for great schools and especially ones that does the IEP plan for children than need a little more help. I don't understand how the schools are rated down here so basically,i'm going to need the run down and fast. I plan to make this move around the middle of the summer.

Ok. That is ..that is fair enough on some levels... and perhaps I DID mis-read a bit on your general theme/intent.
However, on the flip-side, what you did was name one small town in East Texas to make your point. It was Vidor. Yeah, it gets a bad rep (and perhaps for good reasons...I don't know, personally...do you?). But at least according to this article, many blacks have nice things to say about it...
Like I say, I don't know one way or another about Vidor. Or Jasper. Never been there. But I DO know the Northeast/WestCoast MSM will go out of their way to find a small Southern town where an isolated incident occurs and make into a major news-story...all the while ignoring the dirt in their own backyards. If you think that kinda self-righteous, deliberately selected/censored, crap, pi$$es me off? Then you are on the right track! LOL
But ok. So Vidor is 95% white (if this is true). What if I could find a town/settlement/city/suburb that was overwhelming black? Would you apply the same standard of "the obvious" to the fact? That is, a "negative" to the town itself?
And if so, why? What is so wrong with a community being mostly white or black or hispanic or whatever? Is such a prima facia case for racism or hatred or *gasp* "podunk?"
I mean, who cares, really? Maybe it just reflects human nature as in that people tend to naturally gravitate toward their own kind; whatever that kinda may be...? If blacks mostly want to live around and go to school and do business with other blacks? Then why not? And likewise with other groups doing the same thing...whether black, white, asian, hispanic, Indian, or purple-polka-dotted. Or Baptists or Catholics or Amish...
So long as no one is deliberately persecuted/assaulted/harrassed/etc., on the basis of their race/ethnic group/religion/ then what is the big deal with letting them live in a tight community of their own, and be free of it being assumed default to be one of hate or whatever? If it becomes a criminal offense (as it sure should be), then that is one thing...but otherwise? Why worry about it?
Well, enough of this for this evening. Time for supper and setting the alarm. Five-thirty AM always seems to dad-gum AWFUL early! LOL G'night, y'all!
