Talking The Stereotypes & Personalities of Texas Cities

Let's just start with your thoughts on each Texas city, from major ones to minor ones. This is meant to be a FUN thread, not insulting to any major thread. I'm picking Houston & Dallas because I have lived in both for a good amount of time.

1. Houston: Down-to-earth, international, very friendly. Like your wealthy oil relative who has a big gut due to drinking Budweiser but doesn't rub it in your face like his cousin Dallas that he's rich. Is socially liberal but politically conservative, sometimes leaning to the left with a moderate stance.

2. Dallas: Glamorous, big hair, stereotypical Texan with a thick North Texas accent. Goes to a mega church & knows all the best places to shop. Is socially & politically conservative for the most part.

This is all I can think of right now, I'm too tired to write anymore. Anyone care to add?

San Antonio: Tex-Mex to the max. IE: Tejano country.

Austin: Uptight communist weirdos.

Dallas: Perfect mix of evangelicals, hipsters, and ethnic diversity.

Houston: I agree with the OP on Houston.

Fort Worth: They live up to the Texas culture stereotype. Rodeos, stockyards, cowboys, etc.

When was the last time you were in Dallas and where? Yes, I'd say that's a stereotype, and not quite on the mark. I'm in Dallas proper in one of the more conservative areas, but I'd label most people I know as socially liberal, socially moderate, or socially just doesn't care and most definitely fiscally conservative. The Mega churches are in the suburbs, I don't know anyone who attends them, but 99 % of the people I know do belong to a church or synagogue. Knows the best shopping? Yeah, I'd say that's on the mark. Nobody is doing that much of it in this recession though.
Big hair is finally out in Dallas! I do know exactly the hair you're talking about, LOL, but you just don't see it that much anymore. If you check out the society pages you'll see what I mean.

Austin: Hipsterish, outdoorsy, eclectic, liberal, inflated ego (admittedly)!

San Antonio: Tejano, Tex-Mex, embodiment of the Mexican influences in Texas.

Dallas: Interesting kind of urban cowboy, country-meets-big city kind of attitude.

Houston: Mix of down-to-earth and friendly...and just plain weird and kept to themselves. Otherwise very international, wealthy on oil, etc.

El Paso: Very much the cowboy types!

There's really nothing Urban Cowboy about Dallas unless you mean the Round-Up Saloon, one of the largest gay bars in the nation...as far as mega churches go, most folks I know either roll their eyes or make fun of them...check out comments on dallasobserver.com or even dallasnews.com when one of them is mentioned.

As for Stereotypes:

Dallas: Pretentious, but she knows she pretentious
Austin: Pretentious, but she thinks shes down to earth
Houston: Ugly, but friendly
San Antonio and Fort Worth: True Texas at its finest

Dallas isn't as insecure because they can back up their pride with real successes. Unlike Austin. They only have UT and the capitol. And I don't see anything special about them. They are the top corporate chain university in the nation I'll give them that.
