Default Is Texas A&M Well Regarded Within Texas Cities (Particularly in Accounting)?

Hi,

I'm thinking about applying to Texas A&M for a masters in accounting in a year or so, and wondering if Texas A&M is a well-regarded school in Texas cities (particularly San Antonio, Dallas, and Corpus Christi in order of preference). I know UT-Austin is the big cheese down there typically, especially in accounting, but do A&M grads place well too? Are there any other accounting programs/schools that have a good reputation besides UT-Austin?

Also, can any A&M grads comment on life there outside of academics (i.e. social life, athletics, etc.)?

thanks in advance!

The problem with A&M graduates is that after about ten years on the job everyone starts referring to them as Boss

What he means is that A&M may not be quite as highly regarded UT in some fields, but Aggies stick together so well and have such good connections that A&M grads often move up on the ladder very quickly. What he posted is a saying that is often thrown around when talking about Aggies, so you can tell that it is a well-regarded school in Texas. I will be applying there in the fall myself.

I think any hiring manager in Texas will view a degree from A&M very positively. Not materially different from UT-Austin in most areas.

A&M's Mays Business School's MBA program is ranked 13th among public universities in the US.

Texas A&M's Mays School of Business is very well regarded, and not just in Texas. I have a son that's in school there now, and is trying to get into the Mays School.
What the others are referring to is also known as the Aggie Network, and yes it is very real and quite powerful. My husband is also an Aggie, and it has always served him well.
As for life outside of academics, there's plenty going on in College Station. No, it's not Austin, but that's ok. Athletics: you've never been to a college football game until you've been to one in Kyle Field. It's an experience like nothing else.

Agree with other comments, you won't go wrong w/ a degree from TAMU. The Aggie Network is far reaching.

Lots of sports for both the fan and participant, plus other events and activities. The rec center was built after my time, but sounds awesome.

My Aggie friend was in Paris & someone over there recognized her A&M ring.

Aggies are highly desired in the workplace, there is much truth in the above posts.
