Does anyone know how the city of Cool, Texas got its name?

If you mean the Cool, TX that is near Mineral Wells, it's no city -- more a spot in the road. I expect it's derived from someone's surname. Years ago in Colorado I had a patient with that surname.

The Handbook of Texas online has some information, but nothing about the origin of the name.

Quote:
If you live in Texas, there are several books on Texas place names. The most recent and one of the best is "Muleshoe & More: The Remarkable Stories Behind the Naming of Texas Towns" by Bill Bradfield & Clare Bradfield.

It doesn't live up to its name in summer. It's just a little crossroads (Hwys 180 & 113) hamlet. Not much to it.
