Default Teen's questions about College Station

My dad received a promotion and will be heading up his company's new office in College Station. He was offered either a position in College Station or Waco, and we have been to Waco many times and always thought it sucked. Anyway my questions were these:

Are there any good arcades or DDR hangouts there? Call me nerdy, but I love video games lol

I spend a lot of time skating (skateboard) and playing golf. Are there any skate parks in the area? My dad is a big golfer too and I have been trying to convince my family to live on a golf course. I found this place that looks really neat, but I am not sure if you can go to College Station schools there.
Its called Miramount Default (broken link) Anyone know? Whati s that place like...it looks nice at least on the itnernet.

My other major question is that I will be in high school next year and I LOVE playing baseball. I would like to play for a good program. What about golf? Is there any high school there that is good? I have heard that academically the schools are good there so thats good.

My dad is a Michigan grad, but I would like to stay in Texas for college and I have been considering Texas A&M, Rice, Texas, and SMU. So I am excited to see if I like College station. I want to go to all the sports events. Are they expensive?

Also, I will be getting my learners permit fairly soon (hopefully) and wanted to know how the traffic is. I went to my cousins graduation from Texas A&M a few years ago and I remember it took us like an hour to go like a few miles from her apartment to the graduation place. So, I am freaked out about that.

Thank you for taking time to read and I am sorry for all the questions.

We will be going to college station in a few weeks to go home shopping so I am looking forward to meeting my new neighbors

Okay, Bryan-College Station needs its own subforum... it is a college town.

Sorry I can't answer any of your questions, but I wanted to be the first to welcome you to Texas! I can tell you competition is fierce among Texan kids to get into the colleges you mentioned so good luck!

Oh, and your dad made the right choice ----- Waco DOES suck!

College station is a college town - which means the univ. students/perm residents ration is very high. There are good and bad implications, but I would agree with the previous poster that CS is much better than Waco.

Texas (in general) is a HUGE baseball state, so you should have several good BB programs in the area, but I don't know specifics.

As for cost, the state schools are not as cheap as they used to be, but compared to UM (esp. out of state tuition), they are a breeze!

I don't honestly know that answer to that questions, but my inclination is to say probably not.

There are several courses in the Bryan/College Station area and one in Bastrop (about 40 miles away) that my friends love to go play at.

My other major question is that I will be in high school next year and I LOVE playing baseball. I would like to play for a good program. What about golf? Is there any high school there that is good? I have heard that academically the schools are good there so thats good.

Baseball is HUGE in College Station. A&M Consolidated has a good program.

A&M Football tickets are expensive. Basketball and baseball are much more reasonable. In my opinion, the baseball games are much more fun than football anyway.

I'm not gonna lie, traffic on the main roads in College Station sucks right now because they are doing lots of construction. You should be able to find some quiet streets to drive on though.....just don't do it on graduation or football weekends!

Thank you for taking time to read and I am sorry for all the questions.

We will be going to college station in a few weeks to go home shopping so I am looking forward to meeting my new neighbors
Hope you like it, and welcome!

Welcome to Aggieland (much better choice than Waco)!
There are literally no arcade/ddr places, except on campus in the basement of the Memorial Student Center. Sneak in and use away; no one will ever know you're not a college student.
There's a skateboard park in Bryan at Williamson and Henderson parks, but I'm not sure about CS. There's a municipal golf course in Bryan, (the Muni) and public play at A&M's course. As for country club living, there's Briarcrest, Traditions, and Miramont in Bryan, and Pebble Creek in CS. Briarcrest-older course, older homes, near EVERYTHING. Traditions-home of A&M's golf team, super-duper-uber-expensive homes going up out there. Miramont-beautiful; clubhouse looks like Palace at Versailles, Pebble Creek-next to a landfill.
The two high schools (Consol & B-High) have good programs, and A&M's baseball program is good too (advanced pretty far this year). The private schools apparently have good programs too.
A&M may be a good school for you, depending on what you want to major in...Ag, Engineering, Business, or Vet stuff, then yes. Anything else, not so much.
As for Aggie sports...football is impossible unless you're a student, a rich alumni, or the Bush family. All the other sports are reasonably priced (for now) and accessible.
And finally, traffic...Pull out a map of B/CS. Find A&M. Make note of the streets that form a rectangular boundary around it (University, Texas, George Bush, and Wellborn). Stay away from those streets. I love A&M dearly, really I do, but the Ags in their over-compensating 4X4 trucks and sorority sisters in cute lil' BMW's DO NOT know how to drive, especially after a few hours spent on NG, or when classes end each day. Besides that, traffic's never a problem.

As far as arcades, I don't think there is a place that is just an arcade, but they have the arcades at the movie theatres, wolf pen bowling center, and at Gattitown.

Miramont is in Bryan and therefore would be Bryan ISD. Students living in that area will be going to the new high school opening soon I believe, called Earl Rudder High. Going there might be ok, but I wouldn't go to Bryan High. Go to A&M consolidated High if you can.

Construction is kind of a pain and College Station is continuing to grow like crazy. I worked for the city as an intern for a while and I think the projections for the next 10 years or so have College Station having 125,000 permanant residents and Bryan with 90,000 or so plus the 55,000-60,000 A&M and Blinn students. So there will be growing pains, but the commercial development is making it a great place for people of all ages to be, not just college students.

good luck, and enjoy College Station

Also, if you can afford to live in one of those neighborhoods, private school could certainly be an option.

There are some great private schools in B/CS, but I don't know about the quality of the golf or baseball programs there. Let us know how the search went.

If your family could afford to live in Miramont, then there is private school that is basically in the backyard of the development. Allen Academy is undergoing a massive building program and has pretty good sports facilities, especially for a private school. Allen Academy

A few blocks away, construction has begun on a SuperTarget and shopping center. Bryan schools have opened a college prep campus, but athletic teams are not included in the early phase of the program.

Miramont would also be a great, quiet place once for your parents you leave home, but shouldn't be too bad for you because it is close areas with alot of kids(Copperfield, Tiffany Park and Wheeler Ridge).

College Station schools have a better reputation than Bryan schools, but among those who care about learning, I believe a quality education is available in both schools districts.
