So, I would rather have competition. Having more large cities help out the state.

Well having lived in Texas (Metroplex) and visited most of those places, I think they are all nice cities in their own way. I can't even venture a vote.

One thing I didn't know, the person who made Neiman-Marcus went to fashion school in Houston. They just visited Dallas, and found an easy place to lease. That's how it got started.

There's been a lot of cross-pollination like that in Texas. In recent history, the guy who started Dell is from Houston. Went to Austin to attend UT. Filmmaker Richard Linklater based the movie "Dazed and Confused" on his experiences growing up in Huntsville. Went to Austin. Filmmaker Wes Anderson ("Rushmore") is from Houston. Went to Austin to attend UT... okay, didn't mean to focus on film. LOL Half Price Books started in Dallas then expanded to Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and elsewhere, Whole Foods started in Austin then expanded to Houston, Dallas, and elsewhere, and on it goes. If one remembers how huge and relatively geographically isolated Texas is it comes as no surprise.

But just for kicks this is my prediction:
1) Dallas
2) Houston
3) San Antonio
4) Fort Worth
5) Austin
I don't really count El Paso as a major Texas city...
|
If that's the case, then Fort Worth's just a suburb of Dallas.. Honestly, I know El Paso is the ugly stepchild of Texas, but if you consider the metro poulation of El Paso & Juarez being somewhere around 2.5 million, this is definitely not a small town. And before anyone discounts the fact that Juarez is not in the USA and doesn't deserve to be counted then you have no idea how closely intertwined our two cities are. I like to think of it as one big city that happens to have a river passing through that divides us out of formailty..
