Which large Texas city will come out strongest in the future
Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso
My list, given balance of economics (and industries), growth rates of jobs and population, costs of living, qualities of life, improving public transportation, and growth in arts and culture funded by the private sector.
1. Houston
2. Dallas
3. Fort Worth
4. Austin (I think Austin is about to burst a housing bubble.)
5. San Antonio
6. El Paso

The winner will be determined on the CD forum between the 962,725 Houston versus Dallas threads, of which I'm sure this one will become in short order; making it thread number 962,726..

LOL.
It's not my intent to make this another Houston vs. Dallas fight, but rather...ok, I'll drop it now. If it becomes one, I'll just casually sit by and be amused.

Believe me, it will. You can have a "which is better, Houston or Austin" or "which is better, Dallas or Austin" and it'll eventually wind up another Houston versus Dallas thread. The two biggest kids on the block, so to speak. Look around the Texas forum, there are literally thousands and thousands of posts on the subject and once you think one thread has died down, another one pops up with the same old crap; sometimes under the same name - sometimes under a name like this.
Think about it, you're essentially asking which economy is going to be the strongest in the long run. In those two areas, only Dallas and Houston are the real competitors. First, someone from Dallas will come in and say "I vote Dallas because....." Next, someone comes in and says "I vote Houston because..." Then the thread drifts off into - our downtown is better than your downtown, Dallas has DFW, Houston has a seaport, and so on and so on until it's just another of the countless threads on this thoroughly beaten-down topic.
I've seen Dallas versus Houston threads pop up because someone posts pictures of a given area in either of the two cities. Someone from Houston or Dallas then says "We've got an area like that, only bigger and better."
Frankly I don't even want to sit back and watch; these things can get pretty ugly. It's like people think that whomever posts enough redundant information can claim the title of victor, be appointed as such on the CD forum, and then go on to reign as champion of Texas until the end of time.

It's true! At least one or two every week it seems. Too bad we can't appreciate and be grateful that we have so many cities to choose from in one state, a little something for everybody.

I totally agree with you Houstoner. Texas is lucky to have so many thriving cities, each with enough of a difference to make the whole state better off for it.

We really need to have a mod combine all these threads into one "end all" instead of watching another one pop up every week.
But just for kicks this is my prediction:
1) Dallas
2) Houston
3) San Antonio
4) Fort Worth
5) Austin
I don't really count El Paso as a major Texas city...

Hmm, I can see that. It'd be neat if we took all these cities and combined them into one MEGA HUGE SUPER CITY.
Oh, wait, that's what Dallas is doing.
But seriously, yeah, I can see how that would be kinda awesome-r. Texas needs less dilution (of minds, talent, etc.) and more concentration!!

I think y'all are underestimating San Antonio.
