Andrews,TX (or) Eunice, New Mexico??
My husband maybe getting a job just east of Eunice and we are looking into the area and it is either Eunice, New Mexico or Andrews, Texas. Anyone have any inputs on either of these towns would be great. I have 3 children 7, 4, and 1, I am looking for the best place to raise them.
some questions I had are:
State tax in NM or TX?
Crime in Eunice or Andrews?
Just overall quality of life in both?
Whats the weather like?
Whats the people like?
What's the schools like?
Just any inputs is AWESOME and APPRECIATED !!!
Thank you ALL,
SS

Have no clue about the area since I live in San Antonio but Texas does not have state income tax and I believe New Mexico does. You are still going to pay some if you work in NM and live in Texas but you should be able to file and get most of it back from NM

I'd pick Andrews, hands-down. The school system is excellent, and always has been, though I haven't looked at their rankings this year.
Weather is pretty much the same in both places....long, hot, dry summers with mild winters.
Andrews is closer to bigger cities (35 from Odess and 45 from Midland) than Eunice is.
Since Andrews is over 4 times bigger than Eunice (2K to 9K), your kids will have a lot more to do in Andrews. The people are friendly, though small-town West Texas (and NM, for that matter) can be sort of clannish. If you need help, you'll most likely get it.
I've been to Eunice, passing through...and I would not want to live there.
If you want relative isolation and are closer to Eunice, that might be a consideration.
State sales tax is 8.25 here in Midland (that is with all local and county taxes added in) and we have no state income tax.

While Andrews wouldn't make my top ten,or even top 1000 places to live it is worlds better than Eunice,NM.Eunice is the most God awful town I have ever been through. We went through there once on the way to Guadalupe Peak, and every time after that I took the southern route through Pecos.I don't even care to drive through that town again.Don't know much about Hobbs, but I think I would still go with Andrews over Hobbs. At least Andrews is closer to civilization.

Hobbs has been having bad problems with drugs and crime lately.
I wouldn't ever live there, either.

I just wanted to let you know that I have lived in Andrews for 16 years. I have one child in school here. The schools are wonderful! Our town is growing and there is alot in our future! We are going to build two new elem. schools in the near future and our new sports center will be completed soon. I love living in Andrews! I have lived in several towns growing up and as an adult. I can truley call Andrews home. I also work in the community.
I hope I helped you with your questions about Andrews.

ss, I grew up in Andrews. Hated it as a kid simply because there was nothing to do. But, after leaving you realize what a great place it really is!!
The school systems are excellent. I was a student that just did enough to pass. I went one year to neighboring Odessa, and all of a sudden I made the honor roll. Wasn't because I did anything different, just that the schools in Andrews were SO much better.
I still know alot of people there although my last visit was 3 years ago. Just hard to travel with 3 small ones
You'll definately have to try Buddies if it is still open. Best steak fingers ever!! If you like Mexican food try La Hacienda!! Anyway, all this might be mute since it's been so long since I've been there. We are planning a trip next summer. One of my best friends daughter is turning 16 and I promised them I would come!!

Went through Andrews Tx on our way to east texas to visit my son and family, sadly Buddys is closed down. Best steak finger place I"ve ever been to. I lived in andrews for about ten years, my kids loved the school system there and we still have some great friends there that I miss alot. I did hear that one of the cooks at buddys now cooks steak fingers at a cafe, cant remember the name, but its on the right hand side heading towards seminole. It use to be a movie house at one time? Cant remember. Prices are cheap as far as housing goes in andrews, it was looking like a ghost town last year when I was there. Lots of the people work in odessa now. I'd move to andrews if I were you giving the choices you have given, the people there are very nice and if you happen to run across a guy name dan galloway when you move there, tell him Debbie said hello. Both of my grandsons fathers live there still. Got to stop talking about it I guess, LOL, making myself home sick.
