Default Main differences in Austin & Dallas?

Just curious what everyone thinks the main differences are between Austin & Dallas? I've been told Austin is birkenstalks, & Dallas is cowboy boots!

Here we go with the stereotyping again.

For the record I live in Austin and had to google what Birkenstocks are.

Austin is not a very formal city. Not nearly as formal as Dallas anyways...

I think most people would agree.

There used to be more difference in the two than there is now. They both have terrible traffic and many of the same problems. I loved Austin 40 years ago, but it grew too fast, like Fort Worth is doing now.

I read FW is growing at 20% annually? Thats insane.

Do you notice most of the newcomers are from out of state or other parts of Texas?

As far as housing...are there differences? Such as bigger lot sizes, more for your money?
Is there more greenery in either Austin or Dallas?
More/less shopping ?

Dallas is not as expensive to live in as Austin.
Austin is greener & prettier.
Dallas has more shopping.

Housing: Houses are pretty much built the same way in both cities, but Austin tends to be more expensive than Dallas.
Greenery: I think Austin is prettier because of it's vicinity to the Hill Country, but I think they're about the same level in greenery. I give the edge to Austin.
Shopping: This is a Dallas domination.
