There is alittle confusion. I already have my master's degree. Would that help in the marketability of my application within the Austin area vs approaching the same market with a bachelor's. Typically, yes. A master's or more credentials and 2yrs teaching experience, I know, will help- but some areas are known for hiring 'green' teachers and those who will start at a lower payscale as opposed to those with the degree. It happens here in ny a lot.

Talking My vote is Austin!

Austin is a great place to be. I have been in Texas almost my entire life and really love living in Austin. I grew up on the outskirts of Houston and honestly, I do not think I will move back there. In Austin in my opinion... it is beautiful and a very fun place to be. Houston is a little too fast paced and I needed to slow down a bit. I worked for a school district outside of Houston and am thrilled with the education my kids were able to get. I do not know much about teaching in Austin, but I would suggest getting on the substitute list and also looking into private education.

I would also have enough money saved if you do not already have a job, for about 6 months. If you are not too proud to do something other than teaching, then you should be ok. You will need to get certified to teach in Texas and I hope you have already done that.

It isn’t about how much you know; unfortunately it’s about who you know. Get involved and network. Find the school you want to teach at and call the principal so they know who you are. Tell them why you want to teach there and Sub often until a position becomes available.

I wish you the best!

Kelly
