Cost of living is surprisingly high in that area. Health care still very dicey. Would recommend an extended stay of a couple of months before moving out that way. Great place to visit in any case.

If you can afford it and be able to get the right job opportunity, then you should go for it. Alpine's not much, admittedly, but it is peaceful. Fort Stockton is an hour away with some amenities that you won't find in Alpine if the need arises, but it's not much larger. But if you feel Alpine's right for you, then join in. You can make it better.

Hello fellow Texans. I will be moving to Alpine at the end of the month. Volunteered to work there for a year. I was online reading information about the town so I appreciate all your comments, etc. I look forward to volunteering with "CASA" so thanks for putting that online. I will have freetime from work and intend to get involved and help out where I can. I look forward to my new adventure in Alpine and meeting new friends.

Have fun. I think you will be able to unless your expectations are unrealistic of a town that size. I envy you, actually, for the lower humidity (among other things).

Yes, have a good time and enjoy your stay!

I'm probably headed down sometime in September to look at a few properties in both Alpine and maybe Fort Davis. There really isn't a lot available, especially given that some of them are in the floodplain, which I won't even consider.

The murals are still there, but I don't know about the cinema. The building is there, but.....

There is stoplight installation going on Holland/90 in town, and it's a real MESS. They have one lane closed off for the underground work, so I didn't get out on foot as much as I wanted.
