Best Hospitals to work at in Texas
I am a nurse and I am looking to relocate. I am having a lot of problems finding a decent hospital to work for. Can anybody tell me about some good and bad hospitals? I need to move to a good area with good schools.

Well, I live in Abilene and just last week it was announced that our Hendrick Health System was honored as being chosen one of the top 12 employers in the WORLD! That's a really high honor!
I've gone to Hendrick for a lot of tests and procedures and have been very satisfied. I didn't like the ER doctor when I had to go there once but when I told my GP how rude the doctor was to me, he got right on the phone, called the ER and complained on my behalf. I received an apology!
The Abilene school system is VERY good, from what I can tell. I think it's ranked as one of the top school districts in the state.

Look to Lubbock...People come to the Doctor's & Hospitals in Lubbock from all over West Texas and Eastern New Mexico for their health care.

I am also a RN. I would recommend going to a large market. That's the only way you'll be able to "shop" the nursing market efficiently IMO. Smaller markets like I'm in have only one or two decent players so It is impossible to weigh one against the other ... there simply is little competition to attract employees. Obviously the big 3 metro areas are what I'm talking about, and the pay is better! Good schools are available in all areas I mentioned. Good luck!

IMO stay away from tenet facilities. also, el paso has just 4 large (not very) hospitals owned by 2 companies. there are a few small facilities, but most are associated with the 2 companies. so you really don't have much choice. i agree with bobtex that you'd do better to go to a large city such as houston or dallas.

stay away from Tenet facilities, as hellpaso also mentioned.
stay away from ANY hospital that uses Press Gainey
stay away from any hospital that requires PPDS......that is an INSULT to my licensure as an RN

My fiancee is a nurse for Methodist hospital in Dallas, and she loves it there. She is in the ICU floor, but she has floated to ER, Neuro, and CCU and she has had no problems there. She has been there 3 years now and she is the type of girl who will leave a place if she doesn't like it. PM if you have anymore questions about her hospital.
