Schools in Holland, Ohio
Does anyone have any information on the best elementary school in this area? We are considering moving to the Springfield district, but would also consider the Anthony Wayne and Sylvania. Does anyone have any input on any of these? We'd prefer to stay in Holland, so any info would be great. Thanks.

When I lived in that area many years ago, Anthony Wayne was a great school district. Sylvania was as well, buy my best friend moved out of Sylvania a couple of years ago because the schools had gotten bad. Holland does not have a school district. The kids go to the Toledo Public Schools, high school would be Rogers.

I haven't been to Holland in many years, but don't they still have Springfield High School? I student taught at Dorr Elementary (Holland) 25 or 26 years ago and it was a nice little elementary school back then. I don't know about any other elem. schools or middle schools. I went to Anthony Wayne and Springfield was about the same size as we were, but I think our test scores and reputation were always a little better (STRONG parent support system (boosters, PTA, etc.) in the A.W. school district which really makes a difference).

They're all typical, high-income suburban school districts.

SC Beaches,
I haven't lived in the Toledo area for 23 years so I can't answer that. My M-I-L lives in Holland close to Rogers HS. McGuiver is closed, I believe, that too was close to where she lives. They have been demolishing a lot of schools in the last 5 or so years. I guess it depends on what side of Holland/Sylvania Rd you live as to what school you go to. But I'm sure the Toledo Public School system would have a website.

ok, Not to be mean but Holland DOES NOT go to toledo public! Holland goes to springfrield school district. My daughter goes to Dorr St.Elementary and we Live RIGHT next to Holland. One block over we would be Holland. I know MANY people that live IN Holland and go to springfield. Rogers High school is around the area BUT down and over some. It is still the 43615 area code for many BUT Holland definatley does NOT go to Toledo Public. Now to address the Springfield academic standard. I like it. My daughter can read in a 1st grade reading level in the middle of kindergarten. They have really high standards on reading and such. She was even starting math. Now when I was in kindergarten we were only learning to write our names and such. I think the school district is great and even though the taxes are high I think its well worth it! Anythony wayne is a VERY good district as well. They had the highest percentages move on to college this past year! I believe they also had the higest test scores. Hope I was of some help!

Great Schools in Holland
Hi there!
I am a Holland resident - my family moved here in August of 2005 and I did a lot of research on all the school districts in the area before landing in the Springfield School District. Anthony Wayne is experiencing a financial crunch and the Sylvania schools are good (however the property tax rate is astronomical!).
In Holland, we have 4 elementary schools - all are very good. My son attends Holland Elementary and I have a daughter in Springfield Middle School. I am a stay at home mom and and am at both schools 3 - 4 times a week. I sit on various committees with other parents, teachers and administration.
Springfield is a forward thinking district. They are preparing for the future types of education our children will require. Not only do they consistently strive for excellence (from the superintendent down!), they are extremely fiscally responsible.
We moved from a very wealthy school district in Perry, OH and I must say I am very impressed with the staff and courses offered in the Springfield district.
I will check this board often if you have any other questions. I can also give you names and numbers to contact for school personnel. Good luck, I know moving is tough - we do it about every 4-5 years.

Each elementary school is very good academically. That said, I believe that Crissey and Holloway have the better parent support systems. I have done some volunteer work in the various buildings and Holloway is the newest structure.
You can't go wrong in the Springfield district - we're very happy we're here!
Good luck with your decision.

Parent of Springfield School Graduates!
I raised three successful sons in the Springfield Schools. I will always admire and praise the administration, teachers and staff of this district. They have our community and children's best interest in the fore front! They not only have top-rate academics, but are a key to strong character building in our children. They partner with us parents to bring up a child to be a productive and successful adult in society.
I am sorry to say, but feel that I should share my opinion. In my experience of the last 30 years of the below mentioned suburban schools, I would recommend the Anthony Wayne Schools after Springfield, over Perrysburg and Sylvania. You have to be involved in order to see the difference in the outcome!
