Default What do you think of The Blade?

Just curious to see how other people feel about The Blade. Imo, Toledo deserves a better and more positive paper than this. Articles like this one toledoblade.com -- The Blade ~ Toledo Ohio
disappoint me when the first sentence is, " If you live in Toledo, you're part of a city in decline." The article stated this because Toledo lost .2 percent of its population between 2008 and 2009, even though there are still about 2,000-3,000 more people living in the city than there were in 2000. That is the first increase since the 70's, yet the people at The Blade still find a way to only see the negative!

Not surprisingly, the Toledo Free Press has issues with The Blade. Monkey business | Toledo Newspaper

No self-respecting fish would be wrapped in the Blade.

The Freipresse is even worse if anything.

On one hand, the Blade is one of the few major newspapers that is still making money... on the other hand, hype and depression are what news organizations thrive on... the Blade is not immune to this.

The Free Press has its place but it is not at the same level as the Blade.

Why are we wrapping fish in newspaper again? Toledo may be a little behind on some trends, but I assure you my fishmonger uses a glossy butcher's paper or plastic.

Well, let's see...the Blade has downsized its newsprint, decreased in size to where I can pick up the entire paper and it feels about as heavy as the first section alone used to be, and almost everyday you can read about dogs. Dogs being rescued from ice floes, dogs not getting enough quiet time at the pound and turning vicious, county commissioners fighting over dogs, dogs being killed, dogs being rescued, dogs, dogs, DOGS!!! Oh, and the latest dire economic news to hit Toledo. They seem to enjoy printing those stories.

Someone who used to work for the Blade once told me that the Blade is run by a very wealthy family (we all know their name, no need to mention it here) who live in Pittsburgh and hate Toledo with a passion and live to mock it. I can see it, I can definitely see it.

Yesterday had a story "reporting" on a couple of think tanks in Ohio, one of which apparently has a very pro-labor agenda because they recieve 13% of their funding from labor organizations and have a "Strong union presence" on their board of directors as 3 of their 13 members are union leaders. Let's see, according to my calculations, that means that 87% of their funding comes from non-labor sources and they have 10 of the 13 board members who are not union officials. Talk about yhe pot calling the kettle black. The other organization does not release it's funding sources, and I know for a fact that information they provide on their website contains inaccurate "facts".

Just normal Blade rprtng. (They leave half of the story out.)

Yeah, and I love how they refer to pro-lifers as "anti-abortion rights activists" or "abortion rights foes". "Anti", "Foes"...how about referring to abortionists once in a while as "anti-life activists" or "childbearing foes"? Never gonna happen. They have their agenda.

Well, that and the fact that time hasn't softened the shock that someone actually paid over $4 million for that red, scrap metal, dinosaur thingy out in front of the Art Museum!
