I grew up in toledo and moved away this year for a job. Toledo is all about perspective. It has great areas (like the ones mentioned above) and bad ones. IF you live on the East side, or parts of south Toledo, or even the north end, it wouldn't seem too nice, but other parts are great. I grew up in west Toledo and don't regret a thing about my time spend there. The suburbs are nice, if not a little cookie cutter and full of strip malls.

It's a large enough city where things are going on. The people who dump on the city are the ones who don't actively look for things to do and take advantage of. I had a blast going to hens games, and bar hopping in downtown, going to the festivals, boating and fishing on Lake Erie, kayaking the maumee, and walking in the metroparks.

Anywhere you live is all about what YOU make of it.

That said, I moved to the NH coast line and have an ocean view. After living in New England with the quaint whaling, shipbuilding, and logging towns, and having beach and mountains within an hour, my perspective is a little different when I go back and visit....but it's always home and I do miss it. It does look a little dingier once you're looking from the outside in.

I do horribly miss some restaurant there and can't wait to hit them up over xmas....

El Camino, Rudys, Saigon Bistro, Jeds, and Beirut just to name a few.

I'm in the least ethically diverse part of the country...$5 lobster but no mexican food!

Oh, and no one complain about anything property tax or cost of living related concerning Toledo.....

Move to New England if you want to see how nice you have it. I could buy a castle back in Toledo for what I'm going to pay for a 2 bedroom ranch out here.
