My husband's job may put us in Sandusky but are looking for family friendly, low crime town away from Sandusky. Vermillion was the only one suggested but now I've been hearing little bits about it being a flood town? Any truth to that? Does it sit that much lower than the other towns?

I don't know a whole lot about Vermillion but it does look pretty low down by the water downtown. Other areas of town might be better though.

Have you considered Huron? It's the town between Vermillion and Sandusky. Vermillions a tiny bit nicer, like its downtown is a little better, but Hurons a good small lakefront town too.

You could also consider Milan, Norwalk, Bellevue, Castalia, etc. They're all small towns within 20 mins or less of Sandusky. Milan and Castalia are both really small. Bellevues a little bigger, and Norwalks big enough to have a....wait for it.....Walmart!

You could also consider Port Clinton, Catawba Island, and Marblehead....these are all good especially if you want to be close to the lake, and are all within 20 mins of Sandusky.

Thanks for your responses. While I think we would enjoy living in those towns mentioned between Vermillion and Sandusky, I wasn't finding many good choices for schools. The ratings are all pretty low until you get to Vermillion or toward Cleaveland. I didn't mention it in my original post but schools are something we need to consider as well.

keep em out of toledo public then. they constantly whine for more money from home owners, then go into business with places like the ymca and get more funding....then they cut sports. no more double dipping......did i mention they want parents to pay for uniforms as well? so much for PUBLIC schools.

okay then - same issues we're having here in CA - complaining all the time about funding and big class sizes blah, blah, blah.... we've ended up homeschooling (but more because of a serious issue of an aide physcially hurting my 6.5 year old son) so.... I guess if the job transfer ends up in OH, we'll be cautious of the schools and homeschool again if needed. Thanks so much for your help!
