I went to the Weak Signals radio control model airplane show at the sports arena in 1982.

Now I bet that was a rowdy crowd.

Was too young for my parents to let me attend concerts during the specified time frame, but I attended plenty of Goaldigger games. The Sports Arena was a dump, but I kind of miss it.

Just had another buddy of mine from high school tell me about seeing Rush back in the early 80's. Geddy Lee had to tell the crowd to back off a couple of times. Lines to the bathroom were too long so guys just let loose in the hallways, garbage cans, beer cups. Said that there was no way he was going down to the floor level, much safer up in the seats.

I remember parking at the nearby school to avoid the traffic jams coming out of the Sports Arena after concerts.

My friends and I were too young to drive, had my folks drop me off. As the parent of a teenage boy who is the same age as I was when I went to concerts there, I now have to question my parents sanity. No way would I drop off a 14 or 15 year old into the cesspool that was the Sports Arena. Times sure have changed, my parents were not the only ones dropping off young teens.

Well, even as recently as the early '80s, times were different. I wouldn't drop a 14 year old off at Westfield Franklin Park Mall now, but back in the late '70s when we were young teens, my mom used to drop my sister and me off at Southwyck and then go pick up my grandma in south Toledo and come back and get us and nothing bad ever remotely happened to us there either, yet by the end of its slow, painful death, Southwyck was not really a safe place to be either.

I feel sorry for kids today who don't have any idea what it was like to live in a fairly safe world.

This is getting off topic a little bit. But used to deliver the Toledo Blade and was responsible for going door to door to collect payment. Can you imagine parents today letting their kids have a job at the age of 12 plus go door to door to collect their paycheck? After collecting some cash my friends and I would either ride the bus or take our bikes to Franklin Park Mall and spend our earnings.

No, I think I'm the one who took the thread a bit off topic, but yeah, isn't it amazing how safe the world used to be? I used to go door to door as a kid selling stuff for school fundraisers, and granted, I was in a small town in NW Ohio where a lot of the people knew each other, but never once did anyone bother me or act inappropriately, much less harm me. It's too bad things can't be that way anymore.

Sooo...back to the Sports Arena discussion...rock ON, Dude!!!!!
