Moving by toledo
We may be relocating to work at the Davis Besse Plant, which is just North of Fremont. Any thoughts on where to live? looking for smaller town with good schools, one in middle school, one in Elem.

Oak Harbor is a lot closer to Davis Besse than Fremont is and Oak Harbor schools stopped receiving money from Davis Besse awhile ago (still a nice school).

Davis-Besse and Fremont
We moved here 19 years ago to work at Davis-Besse and chose Fremont. After living in this area, I think I would still choose Fremont with Gibsonburg second choice. Since moving here we have done business or met friends in Gibsonburg and think it a nice place to live too. They have a lovely gravel pit lake there for swimming and camping activities. We looked at Oak Harbor but didn't want to be too close to the plant. Besides, we wanted to be close to the interstate since we take many trips to visit family. Oak Harbor still, to my mind, is just too far off the beaten path.
Good luck with your search.

Check out the sleepy village of Elmore which is on the intersection of SR51 & Sr105. It has one gas station. Play golf? You'll enjoy golfing at Sugar Creek GC which is a couple miles from town.

Stay out of Fremont unless you go to Ballville township on the south side. Fremont is pretty dumpy. Consider Oak Harbor, just N of Fremont about 10 miles. Small community, relatively stable, much nicer than Fremont. Fremont is basically full of trash, although there is some commerce coming to the area that will hopefully help the situation.

I grew up in Gibsonburg. Too small for me. I couldn't wait to leave, although my family lived there for several generations and it's hard to find the sense of community and safety we all enjoyed back then. The "gravel pit" swim area is an old limestone quarry. Pfizer used to have a plant there -- don't know if it still exists.

Probably too late on this post. But my husband has worked at Davis Besse for 16 years. We choose to live in Perrysburg, just south of Toledo. It takes him exactly 45 minutes to commute but no traffic. Perrysburg has the best schools and a great sense of community and small town feel, yet still has all the shopping and you are minutes from Toledo.
