Job is moving me to Toledo
Hello All. I am relocating to the Toledo area and prefer to live a very comfortable diverse lifestyle. I have heard so many horror stories about Northwest Ohio, but from my experiance I can not imagine Ohio being as bad as some people are letting off.. What concerns should I have (if any)? I will not dsiclose my race because it should not matter. People who promote hatred are internally being tormented.. Therefore they release it towards others.. Anyway! I want to live comfrotable if you know what I mean.. I am not going to buy, because I dont know how long I will be their! Pls share your love Toledoens. I would love to hear from Blacks, Whites, Indians etc!! Pls share all Thanks!

Spartan, I've been to Toledo and Perrysburg several times to visit my friend and it's definitely more diverse than my area of the world. Because my area is so black and white i really notice the difference when i go up there. No matter where we go i see arabs, indians, and hispanics. I've also been told Toledo has a good sized mexican population. In fact, one of the couples we hang out w/up there is a mexican woman and an irish man. I've never see anyone look twice at us or them when we are out. Also, there is a very large arab population just north of the border in MI and many people from up there do their shopping in the Toledo area. Don't get me wrong, there still are a ton of white and blacks up there, but it's definitely more diverse than i am used to. Good luck on your move!

Like most cities in the midwest, Toledo has racial tensions and is still pretty segregated. With that being said, the only diverse communities I can think of right now are on the south end near Heatherdowns and Reynolds roads and maybe historic Olde West End. I'm sure I'm missing some though.

Perrysburg is doing very well, and the economy there is growing. Many large corporations moving in.

Toledo is not horrible but it could use some obvious improvements. Racism is not a big problem here except maybe in the more suburban areas but the races are intermixing so much its not like its absolutely unheard of. Toledo has a good location meaning its not too far away from other major cities such as Detroit, Columbus, Chicago, etc. Uhm, I dunno exactly what your ideal neighborhood would be but the South and West parts of Toledo are the best sides. Cost of living here is fairly cheap, but there's not much to do especially in the winter time. I'd gladly answer any specific questions you may have as I do still live here until the summer when I plan on moving to Columbus. Good luck with the job though.

I'm not sure why you would hear horror stories about Northwest Ohio. The biggest complaint that people have about the place is that it's not particularly exciting and also the winter can drag on. There's nothing I can think of from my many years having lived in NW Ohio that would "horrify" someone.
